  • Publication number: 20050085730
Abstract: Ultrasonic probe devices are provided which are particularly suitable for use as invasive imaging probes such as endocavity probes and endoscopic probes. The probe devices include a dual cross-scanning bi-plane array transducer formed by a pair of orthogonal, intersecting transducer arrays. The probe devices are capable of providing, either simultaneously or alternately, crossing scanning through a single symmetrical scanning axis.

  • Publication number: 20050075437
Abstract: The present invention relates to and uses, in order to prevent crude oil from “congealing” in a transportation line, a controlled-crosslinking thermal insulation gel, i.e. relatively fluid at the start and developing in-situ gelation in lines only under certain conditions, temperature conditions among other things. In order to obtain controlled crosslinking, it is possible to carry out 1) Physical crosslinkings, i.e. physical bonds between polymers—completely reversible bonds by thermal effect and/or mechanical shear—and 2) Chemical crosslinkings: monomers or polymers having functions allowing chemical bonds to be established between polymers.

  • Patent number: 6866635
Abstract: An ultrasonic endoscopic probe tip device which provides signals to an imaging system for transesophageal diagnosis includes a removable housing adapted to be attached to the distal end of an endoscope. A rotatable, ball-bearing-mounted phased array transducer within the housing is rotatable around its acoustic propagation axis through multiple turns. The transducer is driven by an immersed micro-motorized drive. A torque limiting gearbox couples the drive to the transducer. A position encoder provides the imaging system with transducer position information over a 360° range. An automatic transducer position locking/unlocking system is used to lock the transducer in a selected rotational position.

  • Patent number: 6859984
Abstract: A method is provided for producing a matrix array ultrasonic transducer having an integrated interconnection assembly. A piezoelectric member, formed by a plurality of individual elemental transducers arranged in M×N matrix configuration, is provided and an interconnect interface device is joined to the rear face of the piezoelectric member. A plurality of printed circuits are then attached to the interconnect device so as to enable the resultant transducer array to be electrically connected to an external cable. The interconnect device is formed by an insulator member having dimensions in accordance with those of the piezoelectric member. A drilling operation is performed on the insulator member to form a corresponding array of through holes. The insulator member is then metallized and a resin used to provide filling of the through holes. Grooves are formed in at least one face of the insulator for receiving the printed circuits.

  • Publication number: 20040168517
Abstract: A method is provided for manufacturing crossing/intersecting transducer arrays including first and second ultrasonic transducer arrays which intersect centrally of one another. Each transducer operates independently without any decrease in acoustic performance. The first and second arrays have their own independent signal electrodes, respectively disposed on the front and rear surfaces of the device. Because the arrays are built on a unique piezoelectric member, a portion of signal electrode of each array is adapted to be connected to ground in a manner permitting proper operation of the entire array. A method of forming matching layer sets incorporating electrical interconnections is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6709396
Abstract: A catheter-based ultrasonic transducer array is provided which includes a piezoelectric member sandwiched between matching layers and a backing member. A flexible stiffening element or elements is embedded in the backing member. The element is opaque to radio frequencies and integrated along the azimuthal axis of the array so as to enable a user to view the element in an image of the array derived from the array output and thus determine the angular position of the array. A flexible interconnection assembly provides an electrical connection between the electrodes of the piezoelectric member and external cabling. Different methods are provided for adding a surrounding protective cover to the array.

  • Patent number: 6291086
Abstract: This invention concerns a method, materials, and products involving the joining of titanium aluminide to steel by welding each to an iron-based alloy interlayer or connecting piece. The interlayer can be friction welded to the steel and friction welded to the TiAl. The interlayer alloy can be an iron-based superalloy such as A-286. The friction welding of the TiAl to the interlayer can be done in three steps, each with increased pressure between the parts, with a total time of about 30 seconds. Joint strength of 412 MPa can be achieved for a 25.4 mm weld face diameter. The product can be a turbocharger rotor. The connecting piece (4) is composed of an alloy comprising the following composition in weight percent, Ni, less than or equal to 31.99, Fe, greater than 45.69, preferably, Ni, less than or equal to 30, Fe, greater than 50; and optimally, Ni, less than or equal to 28, Fe, greater than 52.
