Patent number: 9668191Abstract: The present disclosure presents example methods and apparatuses for improved cell searching in a wireless communications environment. For example, the disclosure presents example methods that can include computing a predicted serving signal strength associated with a serving cell where a mobility state of a user equipment is one of a stationary state or a low mobility state. Furthermore, in an aspect, the example method can include ascertaining a search threshold based at least on the predicted serving signal strength and generating a search integration length based on at least the search threshold. In addition, some example methods may include scanning for one or more reselection candidate cells based on at least the search integration length, wherein each of the one or more reselection candidate cells has a cell signal strength greater than the search threshold.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2013Date of Patent: May 30, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Vansh Pal Singh Makh, An-swol C. Patent number: 9113416Abstract: At least one feature pertains to a method of communication that comprises aligning a measurement task that utilizes a resource within a user equipment, such that at least a portion of the measurement task is performed during a time that the resource is enabled in the user equipment, and executing the measurement task during the time that the resource is enabled in the user equipment. In one example, the measurement task may be a searcher task, the resource may comprise receiver circuitry, and the time that the resource is enabled corresponds to a DRX monitoring interval of a downlink channel, such as a high speed shared control channel. By aligning and executing the searcher task during the time that the resource is enabled in the user equipment, searcher overhead may be reduced. Reducing searcher overhead allows the user equipment to save power by disabling the receiver circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2011Date of Patent: August 18, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Jimmy C. Chui, An-swol C. Hu, Jittra Jootar, Feng Lu, Yi Su

Patent number: 8989736Abstract: The present disclosure presents a method and apparatus for determining reselection parameters for detected cells. For example, the method may include receiving system information block (SIB) data associated with one or more cells in a neighbor cell list (NCL). In such example, the SIB data may include a ranking offset parameter associated with each of the NCL cells. Furthermore, such an example method may include detecting a cell that is not in the NCL, determining a reselection ranking value associated with each of the NCL cells, the detected cell and the serving cell. In addition, in some examples, such method may include ranking the one or more NCL cells, the detected cell and the serving cell in a ranking list based on the reselection ranking values. As such, reselection parameters for detected cells may be determined.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2013Date of Patent: March 24, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Fan Wang, An-Swol C. Hu, Sundaresan Tambaram Kailasam, Uzma Khan

Patent number: 8923865Abstract: Apparatus and method for wireless communication in a wireless communication network includes operating a wireless device on a first wireless communication technology. Aspects also include detecting a cell of a second wireless communication technology and determining the detected cell of the second wireless communication technology satisfies a first reselection criterion based on a first measurement. Still further the aspects includes expediting a determination of whether to perform cell reselection to the second wireless communication technology based on the detected cell of the second wireless communication technology satisfying the first reselection criterion. Additionally, aspects include determining to reselect to the detected cell of the second wireless communication technology when the at least one new measurement satisfies a second reselection criterion for the reselection time period.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2013Date of Patent: December 30, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Fan Wang, An-swol C. Hu, Uzma Khan, Sundaresan Tambaram Kailasam, Krishna Rao Mandadapu

Publication number: 20100304744Abstract: Techniques for performing searches by a user equipment (UE) equipped with multiple receive antennas are described. In an aspect, the UE may support multiple receive diversity (R×D) search modes. Each R×D search mode may be different from each remaining R×D search mode in how correlation is performed, how correlation results are combined, and/or how search results are reported for the multiple receive antennas. The UE may select an R×D search mode from among the multiple R×D search modes and may perform at least one step of a search in accordance with the selected R×D search mode. In another aspect, the UE may perform a search with interference cancellation to detect cell(s). The UE may determine multiple complex weights for multiple receive antennas such that signals from interfering cells can be attenuated. The UE may perform a search to detect cell(s) using the complex weights.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2010Publication date: December 2, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: An-Swol C.
