  • Patent number: 9749946
Abstract: The present disclosure presents a method and apparatus for improved reselection during mode transitions at a user equipment (UE). For example, the disclosure presents a method for identifying that a user equipment (UE) has started switching from a first priority scheduling mode to a second priority scheduling mode while making measurements for reselection. In addition, such an example method, may include initiating a mode transition timer in response to the identification and triggering a search for one or more frequencies of the second priority scheduling mode upon expiration of the mode transition timer. As such, an improved reselection during mode transitions at UE may be achieved.

  • Patent number: 9432918
Abstract: Apparatus and methods of receive diversity (RxD) full cell search by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system are described. In an aspect, a first set of received energies of a first signal received at a first antenna and a second set of received energies of a second signal received at a second antenna may be separately determined. Based thereon, a set of peak energies and corresponding antenna indices, along with a slot timing of at least one cell corresponding to the set of peak energies and corresponding antenna indices, may be determined. A frame timing and a scrambling code for the at least one cell then may be determined using a respective one of the first antenna and the second antenna corresponding to each of the set of peak energies and the corresponding antenna indices, along with the respective slot timing of the at least one cell.

  • Publication number: 20160134317
Abstract: Methods and devices for implementing dynamic receive mode management to improve data throughput and paging performance on a multi-subscriber identification module (SIM) wireless communication device may include detecting, on a protocol stack associated with a first SIM, an active communication in a first network, detecting, on a protocol stack associated with a second SIM, an idle mode paging cycle in a second network, prompting entry into a selected dual receive mode on the shared RF resource, and monitoring at least one performance metric for the idle mode paging cycle associated with the second SIM while in the dual receive mode. Based on the monitored performance metric while in the dual receive mode, the wireless communication device may determine whether paging performance is degraded for the second SIM, and if so, trigger entry into a fallback mode on the shared RF resource.

  • Publication number: 20160126992
Abstract: Various embodiments provide methods, devices, and non-transitory processor-readable storage media for mitigating local oscillator (LO) spur interference between radio access technologies (RATs) operating on a multi-active communication device. The various embodiments provide methods, devices, and non-transitory processor-readable storage media to determine residual frequency error for a multi-active communication device and generate LO spur handling tables that may enable the multi-active communication device to compensate for the residual frequency error. A multi-active communication device may mitigate LO spurs by applying mitigation techniques to one or more RATs according to the LO spur handling tables. A multi-active communication device may mitigate LO spurs by turning off a LOs for one or more RATs according to the LO spur handling tables.

  • Patent number: 8923171
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for reducing UE's power consumption by controlling early decoding boundary. In one aspect, a UE is configured to receive a data or voice frame from a base station. The UE selects one or more quality metrics for determining decoding boundary of the received frame and computes the selected one or more quality metrics. The UE then determines a decoding boundary for the frame based on one or more computed quality metrics. The UE then decodes the received frames at the determined decoding boundary and determines whether the decoding of the frame was successful. If the early decoding of the frame was successful, the UE may terminate reception of the frame. If the early decoding of the frame was unsuccessful, the UE may adjust the decoding boundary and decodes the frame at the adjusted boundary.

  • Publication number: 20140274050
Abstract: Techniques for performing cell reselection to obtain good performance are disclosed. In an aspect of the present disclosure, a user equipment (UE) performs cell reselection to a cell by applying one or more performance-based suitability criteria defined to provide good performance. In one design, the UE obtains a measured value for a cell (e.g., a femto cell) and also determines a threshold value for the cell. The threshold value is not broadcast by a wireless system. The UE determines the threshold value based on a target performance for a physical channel (e.g., a page indicator channel) from the cell. The UE determines a suitability criterion for the cell based on the measured value and the threshold value for the cell. The UE determines whether the cell is a suitable cell and also determines whether to perform cell reselection to the cell based at least on the suitability criterion.

  • Publication number: 20140135016
Abstract: Apparatus and methods of maintaining a cell database for wireless communications include discovering a second cell to which a user equipment may reselect. In an aspect, the user equipment may be currently served by a first cell and the second cell is a closed subscriber group cell. Further, aspects include querying a fingerprinting database to determine whether the second cell was previously recorded in the fingerprinting database. Upon determining that the second cell was not previously recorded, further aspects include adding the second cell to the fingerprinting database. Adding the second cell may comprise indicating an association between the first cell and the second cell in the fingerprinting database.
