  • Patent number: 8135701
Abstract: A method for consistent selectivity estimation based on the principle of maximum entropy (ME) is provided. The method efficiently exploits all available information and avoids the bias problem. In the absence of detailed knowledge, the ME approach reduces to standard uniformity and independence assumptions. The disclosed method, based on the principle of ME, is used to improve the optimizer's cardinality estimates by orders of magnitude, resulting in better plan quality and significantly reduced query execution times.

  • Publication number: 20120057627
Abstract: Decision feedback equalizer (“DFE”) circuitry bases determination of the coefficients that are used in its various taps on the algebraic sign of the current value of an error signal and prior serial data signal values output by the DFE circuitry. Use of such algebraic sign information (rather than full error signal values) greatly simplifies the circuitry needed to determine the tap coefficients. The DFE circuitry can be adaptive, i.e., such that it automatically adjusts the tap coefficients for changing serial data signal transmission conditions.

  • Publication number: 20120057492
Abstract: A system includes a signal processing module and a control module. The signal processing module receives a first clear channel assessment (CCA) signal for a first sub-channel of a communication channel, increases a pulse width of the first CCA signal by a predetermined period of time, and generates a second CCA signal. The control module receives the second CCA signal and a third CCA signal for a second sub-channel of the communication channel. The control module transmits data via one of the second sub-channel and the communication channel based on the second and third CCA signals.

  • Publication number: 20120053717
Abstract: A difference between a first expected required polish time for a first substrate and a second expected required polish time for a second substrate is determined using a first pre-polish thickness and a second pre-polish thickness measured at an in-line metrology station. A duration of an initial period is determined based on the difference between the first expected required polish time and the second expected required polish time. For the initial period at a beginning of a polishing operation, no pressure is applied to whichever of the first substrate and the second substrate has a lesser expected required polish time while simultaneously pressure is applied to whichever of the first substrate and the second substrate has a greater expected required polish time. After the initial period, pressure is applied to both the first substrate and the second substrate.
