    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to techniques for integrating an extra gate (EG) vertical field effect transistor (VFET) with a single gate (SG) VFET. In a non-limiting embodiment of the invention, a bottom source or drain (S/D) layer is formed over a substrate. A first semiconductor fin is formed over the bottom S/D layer in a first region of the substrate and a second semiconductor fin is formed over the bottom S/D layer in a second region of the substrate. A block mask is formed over the first semiconductor fin and the second semiconductor fin is recessed. The second semiconductor fin is exposed to an isotropic or anisotropic fin trim.

    Abstract: A computing device compresses a gradient boosting tree predictive model. A gradient boosting tree predictive model is trained using a plurality of observation vectors. Each observation vector includes an explanatory variable value of an explanatory variable and a response variable value for a response variable. The gradient boosting tree predictive type model is trained to predict the response variable value of each observation vector based on a respective explanatory variable value of each observation vector. The trained gradient boosting tree predictive model is compressed using a compression model with a predefined penalty constant value and with a predefined array of coefficients to reduce a number of trees of the trained gradient boosting tree predictive model. The compression model minimizes a sparsity norm loss function. The compressed, trained gradient boosting tree predictive model is output for predicting a new response variable value from a new observation vector.

    Abstract: Innovations in flexible reference picture management are described. For example, a video encoder and video decoder use a global reference picture set (“GRPS”) of reference pictures that remain in memory, and hence are available for use in video encoding/decoding, longer than conventional reference pictures. In particular, reference pictures of the GRPS remain available across random access boundaries. Or, as another example, a video encoder and video decoder clip a reference picture so that useful regions of the reference picture are retained in memory, while unhelpful or redundant regions of the reference picture are discarded. Reference picture clipping can reduce the amount of memory needed to store reference pictures or improve the utilization of available memory by providing better options for motion compensation. Or, as still another example, a video encoder and video decoder filter a reference picture to remove random noise (e.g., capture noise due to camera imperfections during capture).
