Abstract: Microorganisms are prolific producers of natural products, a group of molecules that make up the majority of drugs approved by the FDA in the past 35 years. After decades of mining, the low-hanging fruit has been picked and so discovery of drug-like molecules from microorganisms has come to a near-halt. The reason for this lack of productivity is that most biosynthetic pathways that give rise to natural products are not active under typical laboratory growth conditions. These so-called ‘cryptic’ or ‘silent’ pathways are a major source of new bioactive molecules and methods that reliably activate them could have a profound impact on drug discovery. Disclosed herein is a rapid genetics-free method for eliciting and detecting cryptic metabolites using an imaging mass spectrometry-based approach. An organism of choice is challenged with elicitors from a small molecule library. The molecules elicited are then imaged by mass spec, which allows for rapid identification of cryptic metabolites.

  • Publication number: 20210042556
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for extracting micro-features at a pixel-level based on characteristics of one or more images. Importantly, the extraction is unsupervised, i.e., performed independent of any training data that defines particularly objects, allowing a behavior-recognition system to forgo a training phase and for object classification to proceed without being constrained by specify object definitions. A micro-feature extractor that does not require training data is adaptive and self-trains while performing the extraction. The extracted micro-features are represented as a micro-feature vector that may be input to a micro-classifier which groups object into object type clusters based on the micro-feature vectors.

  • Publication number: 20210042048
Abstract: The embodiments of the present disclosure disclose a computer-implemented method, a system, and a computer program product for distributing data on multiple servers to multiple nodes in a cluster. In the method, each of M servers is instructed to divide data thereon into N data segments. M and N are integers greater than one. The M servers are instructed to send N×M data segments on the M servers to N nodes in a cluster concurrently. For each of the M servers, the N data segments are sent respectively to the N nodes. When any given node in the cluster receives a data piece of a data segment from a server of the M servers, the given node is instructed to transmit the received data piece to remaining nodes in the cluster other than the given node.

  • Publication number: 20210043038
Abstract: An electronic gaming machine includes a display device, a memory device, and a processor. The processor displays a matrix of symbol positions formed by a plurality of reels. The processor also displays a bingo card. The processor determines an outcome that includes a first plurality of symbols to display in the matrix of symbol positions and evaluates the outcome to determine a win amount. The processor populates the matrix of bingo positions with the first prize symbol to a bingo position of the matrix of bingo positions corresponding to a position of the prize symbol in the matrix of symbol positions. The processor evaluates the matrix of bingo positions to determine whether a predefined winning pattern is formed and, in response, determines an award value based at least in part on numerical values of prize symbols forming the predefined winning pattern in the matrix of bingo positions.

  • Publication number: 20210041477
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for realizing a peak-force scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy (PF-SNOM). Conventional scattering-type microscopy (s-SNOM) techniques uses tapping mode operation and lock-in detections that do not provide direct tomographic information with explicit tip-sample distance. Using a peak force scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy with a combination of peak force tapping mode and time-gated light detection, PF-SNOM enables direct sectioning of vertical near-field signals from a sample surface for both three-dimensional near-field imaging and spectroscopic analysis. PF-SNOM also delivers a spatial resolution of 5 nm and can simultaneously measure mechanical and electrical properties together with optical near-field signals.
