  • Publication number: 20040136297
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for determining disc type. Perform a focus servo process by emitting a light beam with a specific wavelength and a focus error signal is generated. According to the overshooting value after the focus error signal forming an S curve, the disc type is determined.

  • Publication number: 20040105370
Abstract: A method for discriminating optical media type includes positioning a reading unit of the optical drive at a first position, moving the reading unit to a second position so that a light spot passes over a data layer of the optical media, continuing measuring the reflection of the laser beam to obtain a first time when the reflection is larger than a predetermined reflection, moving the reading unit back to the first position so that the light spot again passes over the data layer of the optical media, continuing measuring the reflection of the laser beam to obtain a second time when the reflection is larger than the predetermined reflection, and calculating the time difference between the second time and the first time and comparing with at least one predetermined time in order to discriminate the type of the optical media.

  • Publication number: 20040105350
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of detecting orientation of an optical disk drive. Firstly, a first moving distance is measured by using a first force driven on a movable optical pick up head of the optical disk drive for a preset period. Next, a second moving distance is measured by using a second force driven on the movable optical pick up head for the preset period, wherein the second force and the first force have opposite direction but the same amplitude. Next, it is determined that the optical disk drive is horizontal orientation when the difference between the first and second moving distances falls within a pre-determined value. Additionally, a first moving time is measured by using a first force driven on a movable optical pick up head for a pre-determined distance.

  • Publication number: 20040090879
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system for speed error compensation. A predetermined speed signal subtracts a feedback speed signal to generate a speed error signal, and a microprocessor receives the speed error signal and outputs a calculated result. A feedback controller receives the calculated result and generates a first tracking control effort signal. A feedforward controller receives the speed error signal and generates a second tracking control effort signal according to a DC steady state error in the speed error signal. An optical head module moves at an actual speed determined by the total of the first tracking control effort signal and the second tracking control effort signal. A gain controller generates the feedback speed signal according to an actual speed signal detecting from the actual speed.

  • Patent number: 6651523
Abstract: An automatic tension device of a brake includes a fixing base, a brake lever, a worm, a worm wheel, a gap adjusting screw, a pull hook, a cable guide seat, and a cable. The brake lever is pivotally mounted on the fixing base. The worm has one end having a periphery provided with one-direction ratchet teeth. The gap adjusting screw has a through hole for passage of the cable and has an outer thread screwed into the inner thread of the worm wheel. The pull hook is provided with an one-direction ratchet tooth that may be locked with one of the one-direction ratchet teeth of the worm. Thus, the automatic tension device may be used to adjust and shorten the braking gap between the brake pad and the tire automatically.

  • Patent number: 6636466
Abstract: A method for track seeking of a reading head in an optic disk drive is disclosed. In seeking a track in a disk. the track number and the direction in the fine seek are used for adjusting a voltage waveform in the rough seek. The variation of an optic disk drive due to mechanic friction or torque variation of motor can be overcome so as to achieve the same accuracy as being installed with a speed sensor. Since no speed sensor is required to be installed on the track seeking means, the cost in manufacturing is reduced greatly.

  • Patent number: 6501716
Abstract: A method for determining vertical or horizontal operation of optical disk driver is proposed. A feedback signal from a pick-up head of the optical disk driver is sent to a pre-amplifier to generate a focus error signal. The focus error signal is sent to a compensator to generate a compensation voltage. A low-pass filter removes high-frequency components of the compensation voltage to obtain a DC component of the compensation voltage. A comparator compares the DC component of the compensation voltage with a predetermined threshold value to discriminate the vertical or horizontal operation of optical disk driver.

  • Patent number: 6490528
Abstract: Structural and stratigraphic discontinuities are identified in a 3-D volume of seismic data samples, by first selecting a plurality of directions containing a primary direction and at least one secondary direction. Next, one-dimensional, two-trace first discontinuity values are calculated along the primary direction for each seismic data sample in the 3-D data volume. Next, a series of sequentially less restrictive thresholds is defined, such that a significant portion, preferably at least approximately 10%, of the first discontinuity values satisfy the first threshold. This significant portion of first discontinuity values is then stored in an output discontinuity volume at the corresponding sample locations. The following steps are repeated for each remaining data sample until that sample has a value stored at the corresponding sample location in the output discontinuity volume.
