Abstract: A magnetic read apparatus includes a read sensor, a shield structure and a side magnetic bias structure. The read sensor includes a free layer having a side and a nonmagnetic spacer layer. The shield structure includes a shield pinning structure and a shield reference structure. The nonmagnetic spacer layer is between the shield reference structure and the free layer. The shield reference structure is between the shield pinning structure and the nonmagnetic spacer layer. The shield pinning structure includes a pinned magnetic moment in a first direction. The shield reference structure includes a shield reference structure magnetic moment weakly coupled with the pinned magnetic moment. The side magnetic bias structure is adjacent to the side of the free layer.

Abstract: Provided are emissions treatment systems for an exhaust stream having an ammonia-generating component, such as a NOx storage reduction (NSR) catalyst or a lean NOx trap (LNT) catalyst, and an SCR catalyst disposed downstream of the ammonia-generating catalyst. The SCR catalyst can be a molecular sieve having the CHA crystal structure, for example SSZ-13 or SAPO-34, which can be ion-exchanged with copper. The LNT can be layered, having an undercoat washcoat layer comprising a support material, at least one precious metal, and at least one NOx sorbent selected from the group consisting of alkaline earth elements, rare earth elements, and combinations thereof and a top washcoat layer comprising a support material, at least one precious metal, and ceria in particulate form, the top washcoat layer being substantially free of alkaline earth components. The emissions treatment system is advantageously used for the treatment of exhaust streams from diesel engines and lean burn gasoline engines.

Abstract: Improved methods, systems and apparatus for storing and repairing multimedia files are provided that overcome the limitations of existing multimedia file repair technologies. Backup copies of the multimedia container information associated with given multimedia content data are stored, along with the multimedia content data, on an external storage detachably coupled to a recording device. A primary copy of the multimedia container information is stored on an internal storage associated with the recording device. The recording of the primary container information and the content data is performed in real-time or nearly real-time as the content data is captured by the recording device. In the case of an abnormal event (e.g., battery failure, disconnect of storage media), container information may be selected from the primary copy or the backup copies of the container information, thereby increasing the likelihood that the container file can be successfully repaired or regenerated.

The solar cell includes a frontside glass cover, a backside glass cover situated below the frontside glass cover, and a number of solar cells situated between the frontside glass cover and the backside glass cover. Each solar cell includes a semiconductor multilayer structure situated below the frontside glass cover, including: a frontside electrode grid, a first layer of heavily doped amorphous Si (a-Si) situated below the frontside electrode, a layer of lightly doped crystalline-Si (c-Si) situated below the first layer of heavily doped a-Si, and a layer of heavily doped c-Si situated below the lightly doped c-Si layer. The solar cell also includes a second layer of heavily doped a-Si situated below the multilayer structure; and a backside electrode situated below the second layer of heavily doped a-Si.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method for determining a location of a landmark using a map is described. Trajectory data is obtained indicating movement of a device at an area. The trajectory data indicates a landmark. A map is obtained of the area. At least a portion of the trajectory data is compared and/or matched with at least a portion of the map. Based on the matching, a location of the landmark is determined in the map. Various implementations involve system, devices and software relating to the above method.

Abstract: Proppants for use in subterranean formations and methods for fracturing a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore are provided. The proppant material comprises a particulate body having a hydrophobic surface. The method involves introducing a plurality of the particulate bodies into an aqueous fluid to produce a fracturing fluid. Subsequently, the fracturing fluid is introduced into the wellbore at or above a pressure sufficient to create or enhance at least one fracture in the subterranean formation. The proppant material has an increased buoyance factor within the aqueous fluid than a similar proppant material without the hydrophobic surface.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are novel antimicrobial peptides, pharmaceutical compositions containing the peptides, and methods of use of the peptides to inhibit the growth or proliferation of microbes. The antimicrobial peptides are particularly useful to treat infections of dangerous gram positive organisms such as MRSA and VRSA.

The micro-humidifier is operably-connected to and/or is designed to be operably-connected to a breathing circuit upstream of the patient. When the micro-humidifier is operably-connected to a breathing circuit, the vapour from the vapour generator enters into the breathing circuit. A respiratory humidification system contains the a breathing circuit and the micro-humidifier as described herein. The micro-humidifier is operably-connected to the breathing circuit upstream of the patient, and the vapour from the vapour generator enters into the breathing circuit.

Abstract: A passivation method for a silicon carbide (SiC) surface may include steps of providing a silicon carbide surface, depositing a thin metal layer on the silicon carbide surface, forming a first passivation layer on the metal layer at low temperature, and generating a dielectric layer by a reaction between a gas/liquid ambient and the thin metal layer. In one embodiment, the thin metal layer is deposited on the silicon carbide surface by sputtering, e-beam evaporation, electroplating, etc. In another embodiment, the metal may include, but not limited to, aluminum, magnesium, etc. In a further embodiment, the passivation layer can be a low temperature oxide and/or nitride layer. In still a further embodiment, the dielectric layer can be aluminum oxide, titanium di-oxide etc. The passivation method for a silicon carbide (SiC) may further include a step of forming a second passivation layer on the first passivation layer.

Thereby, a virtual private network is implemented based on process control, and a client has a fast startup speed.

Abstract: An example magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) coil base apparatus for use with interchangeable attachable and detachable coil attachments is described. The coil base apparatus electrically and mechanically couples to different MRI coil attachments designed for imaging different body parts (e.g., ankles, knees, wrists, elbows, shoulders). The MRI coil base apparatus includes elements (e.g., channel, pre-amplifier, mixer, feed circuit, decoupling circuit) for controlling the coil attachment to transmit radio frequency (RF) energy that produces nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in an object exposed to the RF energy. The coil attachment includes elements that transmit the RF energy and a copper trace that receives resulting NMR signals. The coil base apparatus may include a slide apparatus for repositioning the coil attachment in one axis when the coil attachment is coupled to the coil base apparatus or a pivot apparatus for rotating the coil attachment when it is coupled to the coil base apparatus.
