  • Publication number: 20080291309
Abstract: A voltage and current mode active pixel sensor for high resolution imaging is presented. The photo pixel is composed of a photodiode and two transistors: reset and transconductance amplifier transistor. The switch transistor is moved outside the pixel, allowing for lower pixel pitch and increased linearity of the output photocurrent. The reset and amplifier (readout) transistors may also be shared among adjacent pixels by the introduction of transfer switches between the photodiodes and the source of the reset transistor and the gate of the readout transistor. The switch transistor outside the pixels provides biasing voltages or currents to the readout transistors to selectively turn them on when readout of the corresponding photodiode is desired and turns the readout transistor off when the corresponding photodiode is not to be read out.

  • Publication number: 20080292323
Abstract: A system for reducing clipping may be used between a multichannel RF source and a laser to reduce or correct clipping that might occur in the laser as a result of negative spikes or peaks in a multichannel RF signal. The system generally includes a clipping correction circuit that receives the multichannel RF signal and responsive to the RF signal, prevents one or more of the negative peaks in the RF signal from causing clipping. The clipping correction circuit may either detect an envelope of the RF signal and/or may detect one or more peaks in the RF signal. One or more negative peaks may be prevented from causing clipping by adjusting a bias current provided by a bias control circuit and/or by modifying the RF signal with one or more clipping correction pulses coinciding with one or more negative peaks.

  • Publication number: 20080294354
Abstract: A system and method for detecting structural damage is provided that utilizes a general order perturbation methodology involving multiple perturbation parameters. The perturbation methodology is used iteratively in conjunction with an optimization method to identify the stiffness parameters of structures using natural frequencies and/or mode shape information. The stiffness parameters are then used to determine the location and extent of damage in a structure. A novel stochastic model is developed to model the random impact series produced manually or to generate a random impact series in a random impact device. The random impact series method or the random impact device can be used to excite a structure and generate vibration information used to obtain the stiffness parameters of the structure. The method or the device can also just be used for modal testing purposes. The random impact device is a high energy, random, and high signal-to-noise ratio system.

  • Publication number: 20080291847
Abstract: Various example embodiments are disclosed relating to route discovery and management in relay networks. In an example embodiment, a first message may be received at a first network station in a wireless network. It may be determined whether the received first message includes an identifier of a second network station indicating an attachment of a network node to the second network station. The received first message may be modified to include an identifier of the first network station indicating an attachment of the network node to the first network station if it is determined that the received message does not include the identifier of the second network station. The received first message may be forwarded to a third network station. Various techniques may also be provided for updating and managing a network topology, e.g., for discovering, updating, and selecting communication paths for network traffic.

  • Patent number: 7457735
Abstract: A water distribution model calibration technique is provided that allows a user to design a calibration model by selecting several input parameters desired to be used for the calibration of a model that allows an engineer to collect a complete set of data to represent the overall system conditions at any given time of day. For example, several parameters may be chosen including link status, the pipe roughness coefficient, junction demand, and pipe and valve operational status. Trial solutions of the model calibration are generated by a genetic algorithm program. A hydraulic network solver program then simulates each trial solution. A calibration module runs a calibration evaluation program to evaluate how closely the model simulation is to the observed data.
