  • Patent number: 7747861
Abstract: A method and apparatus for secure storage of data by using redundant keys is provided. The method includes encrypting a data set by using a master key, which can be encrypted by different sync keys. Sync keys can be generated by different supervisor cards. Thereafter, the encrypted master key and the encrypted data set can be stored in a memory. Further, credentials stored in one of the supervisor cards can be encrypted and transferred to other supervisor cards, to provide redundancy of supervisor cards.

  • Publication number: 20090067430
Abstract: In one embodiment, a technique for performing partial build fabric operations when merging two or more Fibre Channel fabrics is provided. By maintaining a Principal Switch already assigned for one of two merging fabrics, a limited “partial build” may be performed for the other merging fabric. • Patent number: 6445491
Abstract: An optical parametric amplifier pumped by ultrashort optical pulses provides time-gated image amplification or time-gated image frequency conversion, resulting in optical sectioning of an object under test and/or background rejection of improperly timed light. An ultrashort laser pulse of one frequency is used to illuminate an object under test. An ultrashort pulse light beam at a signal frequency transmitted through or scattered from the object is optically mixed with an ultrashort laser pulse at a pump frequency in a nonlinear optical medium. This mixing produces an amplified image of a particular optical section of the object at the signal frequency in addition to producing a frequency converted image of the same optical section at an idler frequency. This time-gated amplification can be used in conjunction with a confocal imaging system, or a conventional imaging system.

  • Patent number: 6181463
Abstract: Use of quasi-phase-matched (QPM) materials for parametric chirped pulse amplification (PCPA) substantially reduces the required pump peak power and pump brightness, allowing exploitation of spatially-multimode and long duration pump pulses. It also removes restrictions on pump wavelength and amplification bandwidth. This allows substantial simplification in pump laser design for a high-energy PCPA system and, consequently, the construction of compact diode-pumped sources of high-energy ultrashort optical pulses. Also, this allows elimination of gain-narrowing and phase-distortion limitations on minimum pulse duration, which typically arise in a chirped pulse amplification system. One example of a compact source of high-energy ultrashort pulses is a multimode-core fiber based PCPA system. Limitations on pulse energy due to the limited core size for single-mode fibers are circumvented by using large multimode core.

  • Patent number: 5847863
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for amplification of ultrashort optical pulses. The disclosed system has reduced size and increased robustness, reliability and cost-effectiveness. The disclosed invention is particularly effective in chirped pulse amplification (CPA) systems wherein pulses are stretched, amplified, and re-compressed. According to one aspect of the invention a compact stretcher is used with a bulk compressor, and compatibility between them is achieved by inserting a telescope in the path of the collimated beam. Alternatively, compatibility between the stretcher and the compressor is achieved by creating nonlinearly chirped bragg grating in the fiber stretcher. According to another aspect of the invention, a fiber and a bulk amplifiers are used to amplify the pulse, and compatibility between them is achieved by inserting a doubling crystal in the path of the pulse between the two amplifiers.

  • Patent number: 5489984
Abstract: An optical correlator is disclosed that, in combination with an ultrafast optical pulsed source, can be used for estimating the differential position of remote objects with submicron precision, as opposed to measuring the absolute distance. The system includes an ultrafast pulsed laser source feeding into an amplitude-division device, with each amplitude component leading to an entity for launching pulsed radiation at the target, along with an entity for collecting the radiation scattered or reflected off the surface of the object, a nonlinear device for time-gating the collected signal with the amplitude-divided source, and a detection device for observing the time-gated signal. The device has remarkable spatial resolution and sensitivity. Applications of the technique to the measurement of torque, angular deformation, and two- and three-dimensional surface profilometry are presented.
