    Abstract: Methods for the identification of autism spectrum disorder in children about 10 years or less of age are described. Methods include testing a sample from a subject for the level of specific biomarker metabolites that have been shown to be different in children with autism spectrum disorder and children that are developing typically. The methods can be utilized as a quick and reliable screening tool for ASD, a diagnostic test for ASD, a measure to monitor treatment of ASD, and may provide a unifying model for the genetic heterogeneity of ASD.
