  • Publication number: 20250216575
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed. The methods may include obtaining rock core data from a formation, obtaining well logs, which include a current resistivity log, from a well within the formation, and inputting the well logs into a trained machine learning (ML) model. The method further includes producing a predicted permeability log from the trained ML model, determining a rock type log based on the rock core data, and determining an initial saturation log based on the rock type log. The method still further includes predicting, using an Archie-type model, an initial resistivity log based on the initial saturation log, identifying at least one of a water encroachment zone and a pay zone along the well by comparing the initial resistivity log and the current resistivity log, and designing a completion plan for the well based on the at least one of the water encroachment zone and the pay zone.

  • Publication number: 20230288604
Abstract: Systems and methods for developing a reservoir that include obtaining well log data (conducting nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gamma ray (GR), and resistivity logging operations to generate corresponding NMR, GR and formation true resistivity logs for one or more wells in the reservoir), determining rock property data based on the well log data, determining a “water-zone baseline” based on the rock property data (e.g., based on a cross-plot of rock properties determined from the NMR and GR logs and resistivity values), and determining water saturation data based on the water-zone baseline.

  • Patent number: 11078785
Abstract: Provided are techniques for drilling hydrocarbon wells based on evaluation of penetrated formation rock that include obtaining historical drilling data for one or more wells, determining a rock type mapping based on the historical drilling data, obtaining current drilling data for a well, determining, based on the current drilling data, a current rock identification (or “ROCKID”), and determining, based on the rock type mapping and the current rock identification, a rock type encountered by a drill bit drilling the well, where drilling parameters can be adjusted based on the rock type.

  • Patent number: 10563504
Abstract: Techniques for determining an amount of chert in a rock formation include identifying first logging data for a selected zone of a first subterranean formation that includes chert, quartz, and zircon; identifying second logging data for a second subterranean formation that is different than the first subterranean formation, the second subterranean formation including chert, quartz, and zircon; determining a first volumetric ratio of quartz to zircon in the selected zone based on the first logging data; determining a second volumetric ratio of quartz to zircon based on the second logging data; determining a maximum value of the second volumetric ratio; and calculating, based on the first and second volumetric ratios and the maximum value of the second volumetric ratio, a volumetric percentage of chert in the selected zone.
