    Abstract: The invention relates to an active surface element (2) for improved healing of cell layer lesions comprising at least one topographically structured surface on a substrate, with a pattern comprising alternating ridges (5) and grooves (6) with a pattern period (p) and extending along a pattern length (l), wherein the pattern period (p) is smaller than 10 ?m and the pattern length (l) is larger than 1 mm.
