  • Patent number: 4614301
Abstract: A device for proportioning and feeding powder into a barrel of a detonation unit comprises a powder container communicating with a neutral gas pressure source, a bin accommodating two pipes which are coaxial during a powder feed cycle, the first pipe communicating with the powder container and being movable in relation to the second pipe which communicates with the barrel of the detonation unit, and a duct for the supply of a neutral gas to the inlet of the second pipe after proportioning of powder is over. The duct ends with a nozzle arranged at the inlet of the second pipe at an angle to its geometrical axis and is provided with a branch pipe whose first end is connected to the nozzle, while its second end is connected to the second pipe at some distance from its inlet, the first pipe being designed and arranged so that it is acted on by the neutral gas jet exiting from the nozzle and is thus displaced in relation to the second pipe.

  • Patent number: 4279383
Abstract: The disclosed apparatus includes a detonation chamber constructed in the form of a barrel, a spark plug mounted in the barrel and powder feeding and gaseous mixture delivering systems communicating with the detonation chamber. The powder feeding system include a batchmeter communicating with the source of carrier gas by means of a gas conduit with a control member of the carrier gas feed controller for controlling the quantity of carrier gas delivered to the batchmeter within a unit of time mounted thereon. The apparatus also includes a control system having a powder detector for detecting powder in the detonation products, electrically connected with a control unit. The control unit effects switching on of the mechanisms and the systems in a predetermined succession and switching on of the actuating mechanism of the carrier gas feed controller, depending on the detector signal indicative of the powder presense in the detonation products.

  • Patent number: 4258091
Abstract: A coating is applied to a workpiece by ejecting a powdered material towards the workpiece using the energy of explosion in a recurrent cyclical operation. To produce an explosion, introduced into a combustion chamber of a detonation gun are a powdered coating material suspended in the stream of an inert gas and a gaseous explosive mixture formed by mixing a combustible gas and an oxidizing gas with or without an addition of an inert gas. During the coating process the explosive mixture is formed continuously, and cyclically filling the combustion chamber by portions of the explosive mixture is accomplished by feeding the inert gas to the pipe connecting the mixing chamber to the combustion chamber, which enables regular termination of the stream of explosive mixture and prevents the flame from spreading to the mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 4231518
Abstract: The apparatus comprises an explosion chamber made in the form of a tube closed at one end and accommodating at least one spark plug. The explosion chamber communicates with a chamber for preparation of an explosive mixture and with a batcher metering pulverulent coating material. The batcher includes a mixing chamber communicating with a hopper via a passage. The passage accommodates a device for controlling its cross-sectional area and is provided with a jet nozzle for positively feeding the coating material to the explosion chamber. A partition wall of a gas-permeable material is mounted within the hopper in equally spaced relation to the walls thereof to define an annular space communicating with a compressed gas source prevent self-compaction of the powder. A non-return valve is mounted in the portion of the batcher passage connected to the hopper to close the passage in case of back impact from the explosion chamber.
