  • Patent number: 11454610
Abstract: A chemical trace detection system includes: a drift tube; a detector disposed within the drift tube; a voltage source to produce an electrical field in the drift tube; an ionizer to establish an ionization region adjacent to the electrical field; and a desorber including a sample holder to hold a sample in or adjacent to the ionization region and a sample heater to desorb particles of the sample held in the sample holder such that the desorbed particles are introduced directly into the ionization region from the sample holder to form ionized particles that are forced toward the detector by the electrical field. A regenerable dryer assembly for supplying dry drift gas to an ion mobility spectrometer is also provided that includes a regenerable dessicant material.

  • Patent number: 7820979
Abstract: A system and method for providing a pulsed atmospheric source of ions for chemical analysis includes a chamber containing a pair of electrodes and a second chamber with the sample gas. A narrow pulse of high voltage is applied between the electrodes to form an arc which emits ultraviolet light directly into the sample gas chamber through an aperture connecting the chambers. The ultraviolet photons ionize the sample gas and the resultant sample gas ions are then swept into a chemical detector by an electric field.

  • Patent number: 3976449
Abstract: Proposed is an installation for electrostatic precipitation comprising at least two electrode gaps, each of said gaps being formed by a receiving and a corona electrodes, and a high-voltage rectifying unit embodied on the basis of a transformer. The high-voltage winding of the transformer is provided with a gate circuit comprising two opposing gates, which gate circuit is connected in parallel to said high-voltage winding, the common point of said gates being electrically connected with the receiving electrodes. The high-voltage winding of the transformer is also connected via linear electric elements to the corona electrodes, a discharge circuit for each of the electrode gaps alternately forming via the high-voltage winding of the transformer and the other electrode gap.
