    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for producing a partially coherent optical beam with a fast update rate are based on scanning a focused input beam across the input end of a multimode optical waveguide. The update rate of the partially coherent optical beam produced at the output of the multimode optical waveguide is increased with respect of the input beam scanning rate by a factor approximately equal to the ratio of the core size of the multimode optical waveguide to the focal spot diameter of the input optical beam. The apparatus may include an angular optical beam deflector based on an electrooptic material such as potassium tantalate niobate (KTN) crystal.
