  • Publication number: 20240327324
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for converting alcohols to aldehydes, in particular fatty alcohols to fatty aldehydes, said method utilizing a catalyst, wherein the method is capable of providing high conversion of said alcohol, for example on a large scale, wherein the reaction and purification utilise a relatively small amount of solvent, and wherein the purification is capable of removing the catalyst from the product aldehyde.

  • Patent number: 9676623
Abstract: This invention relates to a process and an apparatus for conducting simultaneous endothermic and exothermic reactions in a microchannel reactor. A start-up procedure for the microchannel reactor is disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 14, 2013
Date of Patent: June 13, 2017
    Assignee: Velocys, Inc.
Inventors: Steven T. Perry, Ravi Arora, Martyn Twigg, Bin Yang, Thomas Yuschak, Kai Tod Paul Jarosch, Eric Hans Drescher, Franck Letellier, Anders Gabrielsson
  • Patent number: 9387462
Abstract: The catalyst of the invention is a particulate catalyst in the form of particles having a minimum dimension of at least 0.8 mm, including a transition metal or a compound thereof dispersed on a porous support material, characterized in that said catalyst particles comprise at least 35% w/w total transition metal; and the transition metal surface area of said catalyst is at least 110 m2 per gram of transition metal and the tapped bulk density of a bed of the catalyst particles is at least 0.7 g/ml. The method of making a catalyst includes multiple steps of impregnation of a porous support with a metal ammine solution followed by drying, calcination and reduction of the dried material. The catalyst is useful in hydrogenation reactions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 23, 2010
Date of Patent: July 12, 2016
    Assignee: Johnson Matthey PLC
Inventors: Martin Graham Partridge, Marinus Johannes Vissenberg, Anders Gabrielsson
