  • Patent number: 8462710
Abstract: A traffic plane entity (e.g., user plane entity (UPE), serving gateway (S-GW)) and method are described herein for allocating a unique identifier (e.g., UPE/S-GW UE-Context-Id) which identifies and unifies a set of bearers within a UE context that is associated with a given UE. In operation, the traffic plane entity can then send the allocated unique identifier to another entity (e.g., mobility management entity (MME)) which at a subsequent time re-sends the unique identifier back to the traffic plane entity along with a request to have the traffic plane entity perform a specific operation or procedure on the bearers associated with the UE context of the given UE. Upon receiving the request, the traffic plane entity uses the unique identifier to perform the requested operation or procedure simultaneously on all of the bearers associated with the UE context of the given UE.

  • Patent number: 8428588
Abstract: The invention therefore relates to a method, a first Mobility Control Node and a second Mobility Control Node for context handling when a user equipment, UE, moves from a previous Access Network, AN, to a present AN. The ANs are adapted to communicate with a Core Network, CN, and the UE is adapted to communicate wirelessly with the AN's. The method comprises the steps of: the UE detecting that it has entered a Mobility Area, MA, belonging to the present AN, said MA not being registered with the CN, the UE initiating a Mobility Area Update, MAU, procedure in response to the detection by sending a MAU Request message comprising an UE Temporary ID to a Radio Access Node, RAN, the RAN adding a Mobility Area Identity, MAI, to the Request message and forwarding the message to a first Mobility Control Node, MCN, responsible for the present AN, the first MCN deriving one second MCN from the UE Temporary ID and sending a context request message to said second MCN.

  • Patent number: 8259677
Abstract: The invention regards a handover method for a data packet based wireless mobile communications network. The network comprises a core network (CN) and a radio area network (RAN). The core network (CN) comprises a control plane node (MME) intercommunicating with a user plane node (UPE). The radio area network comprises a mobile user equipment (UE) intercommunicating with a source radio base transceiver station, eNOdeB, (source eNodeB), wherein payload data is routed via a tunnel between the user plane node (UPE) and the source eNodeB (source eNodeB), wherein the handover comprises the step of establishing a temporary tunnel between the user plane node (UPE) and a target eNodeB (target eNodeB), the handover being initiated by the target eNodeB (target eNodeB) transmitting an unreliable uplink data signal to the user plane node (UPE) comprising handover information.

  • Patent number: 7660586
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system supporting data communication and comprising at least a first core network with a plurality of circuit switched (CS) core network functional server nodes and a second core network with a number of packet switched (PS) core network functional sever nodes for packet switched communication. The CS core nodes are arranged in a pool and an interface (Gs) between CS core nodes and PS core nodes is used for providing information to CS core nodes from PS core nodes relating to mobility related events provided from an MS to a PS core node. When a mobile station moves from a first CS core node to a second CS core node the PS core node to which the MS is connected is provided with information relating to the change from said first to said second CS core node.

  • Patent number: 7542447
Abstract: A pool of functional server nodes in a packet data network, and method of transferring a given mobile terminal from a current functional server node to a target functional server node in the pool. An interface enables each functional server node to control any, or a number of, radio network control nodes. When a transfer is desired, the pool selects the target functional server node and initiates a transfer of control responsibility for the given mobile terminal's connections from the current functional server node to the selected target functional server node. The control responsibility is then transferred to the selected target functional server node without interrupting service to the given mobile terminal.
