  • Publication number: 20240416898
Abstract: Various systems and methods are presented regarding utilizing technology onboard a first vehicle to reduce probability of a second vehicle being further involved in a traffic accident occurring between the first vehicle and a third vehicle. The first vehicle can transmit a notification to the second vehicle, wherein the notification can provide details regarding the collision, collision location, vehicles involved, etc. The second vehicle, operating autonomously, can self-adjust operation to avoid being involved in the accident, e.g., the first vehicle and third vehicle are in a rear-end collision, which the second vehicle can navigate to avoid. The second vehicle can, for example, self-determine whether a safe braking distance can be achieved, navigation into an adjacent lane, warn other vehicles of the collision. Accordingly, autonomous vehicles can reduce probability of pile-up collisions occurring.

  • Publication number: 20240375643
Abstract: Mitigation of third-party involvement in a rear-end collision (e.g., using a computerized tool) is enabled. For example, a method can comprise: based upon a determination, according to a defined primary impact probability threshold, that a first collision between a first vehicle and a second vehicle is likely to occur, activating, by a system comprising a processor, a third party collision mitigation mode, in response to the activation of the third party collision mitigation mode, determining, by the system and according to a defined secondary impact probability threshold, whether a second collision with an object, other than the first vehicle and the second vehicle, is likely to occur, and based on the second collision being determined to be likely to occur, facilitating, by the system, an impact mitigation action determined to minimize a likelihood of occurrence of the second collision with the object.

  • Publication number: 20240359624
Abstract: Various systems and methods are presented regarding utilizing technology onboard a first vehicle to mitigate road traffic accidents involving a second vehicle where the driver is affected by glare. Glare can be due to sunlight or headlight beams incident upon a driver's face. Glare can impede a driver's vision and ability to resolve a road or objects ahead. The first vehicle can detect the driver of the second vehicle may be impeded by glare, whereby, in response thereto, the first vehicle can (i) autonomously adjust operation of the first vehicle to reduce likelihood of involvement in accident with the second vehicle, (ii) can communicate with the second vehicle to beneficially affect operation of the second vehicle, and/or (iii) alert other entities using the road to presence of the first vehicle or second vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20240344369
Abstract: Various systems and methods are presented regarding utilizing technology onboard a vehicle to minimize road traffic accidents between cyclists and vehicles. A vehicle can be operating in any of an autonomous, partially autonomous, or non-autonomous manner. By utilizing onboard technology/artificial intelligence, the vehicle can detect a cyclist navigating a street proximate to the vehicle, and further determine, if a door of the vehicle was opened, whether a car dooring incident would result involving the cyclist. In response to a determination that a car dooring incident is likely, an onboard system can prevent an occupant from opening a door likely to cause the dooring incident. Accordingly, the vehicle can preemptively adjust available operations to prevent a car dooring incident.

  • Publication number: 20240326863
Abstract: Various systems and methods are presented regarding utilizing technology onboard a vehicle to minimize road traffic accidents between cyclists and vehicles. A first vehicle can be operating in any of an autonomous, partially autonomous, or non-autonomous manner. By utilizing onboard technology/artificial intelligence, the first vehicle can detect both a cyclist navigating a street and a parked vehicle that is proximate enough to the cyclist for the possibility of dooring event to occur if a door of the parked vehicle was opened into the path of the cyclist. The first vehicle can determine a respective velocity of the cyclist and a location of the door on the parked vehicle. Accordingly, the vehicle can preemptively adjust its operation to prevent being involved in the effects of the dooring incident based on a determined probability of a dooring event occurring/likely to occur, e.g., situation is safe, moderately safe, or dangerous.

  • Publication number: 20240246531
Abstract: Various systems and methods are presented regarding utilizing technology onboard an autonomous vehicle (AV) to mitigate the effects of communication signals being deleteriously affected/lost when the AV is navigating a road tunnel (e.g., where the AV is operating partially autonomously or autonomously). Prior to entering the tunnel, the AV can receive information regarding the length of the tunnel, etc., which the AV can then utilize to self-navigate the tunnel. To improve communications while in the tunnel, a second vehicle can act as a communication relay between the AV and an external navigation system (e.g., GNSS). The AV can also request an occupant drive the vehicle through the tunnel. In the event of an accident, the AV can transmit status reports to external entities such as police, traffic department, and suchlike.

  • Publication number: 20240140412
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for controlling a vehicle. The vehicle shares a traffic infrastructure with a cyclist. The method comprises detecting the cyclist and a location of the cyclist. Subsequently, based on a body pose of the cyclist and a map information, a cyclist path is estimated along which the cyclist is expected to be travelling. Moreover, the method comprises determining whether the vehicle path and the cyclist path interfere with one another. A location of interference of the vehicle path and the cyclist path is determined respectively if the vehicle path and the cyclist path interfere with one another. Additionally, an interference risk describing whether the vehicle and the cyclist risk to interfere with one another at the location of interference is determined and a reaction maneuver is triggered.

  • Patent number: 11327238
Abstract: A housing for enabling coupling of light from a light source to an optical light guide. The housing allows for the optical light guide to rotate about its axis with respect to the housing and a light source while at the same time maintaining the optical coupling with the light source. Accordingly, it is desirable to couple light from a light source to an optical light guide, where the optical light guide is freely rotatable about its axis. This is obtained by a locking mechanism of the housing where the light source is arrangeable. The locking mechanism includes a circumferential structure adapted to receive at least one radial locking member of the optical light guide. The circumferential structure is configured such that the optical light guide is rotatable about its axis in the locking mechanism while maintaining a spatial relationship between the end portion of the optical light guide and the light source.

  • Patent number: 10907803
Abstract: Lamp assemblies for illuminating interior or exterior spaces of a vehicle are provided. In one implementation, a lamp assembly includes a housing having a frame, the housing being adapted to at least partially cover a light device installed within the housing. Light radiating from the light device passes through an opening in the frame. The lamp assembly further includes a lens adapted to be removably connected to the frame of the housing. When connected to the housing, the lens is adapted to refract the light radiating from the light device through the opening in the frame. When the lens is connected to the frame of the housing, a shortest path between the light device and the lens is defined by a z-axis. The lens may include one or more slide components to allow the lens to slide into or onto the frame along an x-axis that is perpendicular to the z-axis.
