  • Patent number: 10584296
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for torrefaction of biomass and combustion of generated torrefaction gases. The torrefaction gases released from the biomass during the torrefaction reaction are withdrawn from the reactor and into a first burning zone. A secondary stream of air is introduced to the first burning zone to combust the torrefaction gases whereupon hot flue gases are obtained. Part of the hot flue gases are directed to a mixing unit. The rest of the hot flue gas is directed to a second burning zone for complete combustion of the flue gases. The fully combusted flue gases obtained in the second burning zone are directed to a heat recovery unit where the temperature of the flue gas is decreased. Part of the cold flue gases are directed to the mixing unit where it is mixed with the hot flue gases such that a stream of cooled flue gases is obtained. The stream of the cooled flue gases are diverted into the torrefaction reactor for direct heating of the biomass.

  • Publication number: 20140325900
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for efficient torrefaction of a biomass. Said system comprises a first zone for heating of an optionally pre-dried biomass and an insulated second zone for torrefying the heated biomass. The second zone has an inlet being connected to an outlet of the first zone and means for withdrawing torrefied biomass arranged at the bottom of the second zone, such that the biomass can move downwards through the second zone by means of gravity. Means for heating are arranged at the first zone, but not at the second zone.

  • Publication number: 20140223810
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for efficient cooling of torrefied material which also increases energy yield and hydrophobicity of the torrefied product and decreases clogging of the cooling device. The method includes that at least a part of cooled torrefied material is mixed-back with hot torrefied material before the hot material is introduced into a cooling device for further cooling of the torrefied material.

  • Publication number: 20140215094
Abstract: Interrelated methods for compression and decompression within a common context provides mapping of each index of a sequence of indexes to an index value. The method comprises decomposing a data set into a sequence of chunks, wherein each chunk is associated with a bit pattern and an index unique within the sequence. For a certain bit pattern a value sum is created of all index values mapped to each index of every chunk associated with the bit pattern. The decompression method comprises retrieving a value sum associated with a certain bit pattern; selecting a set of indexes, such that the sum of all index values mapped to indexes comprised in the selected set of indexes equals the retrieved index value sum; and recomposing a sequence of chunks such that each chunk is further associated with the unique bit pattern.

  • Publication number: 20110154684
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the manufacture of torreficated lignocellulosic material. Finely divided lignocellulosic material is exposed in running order for drying, heating to at least 200° C. in the absence of oxygen (the torrefication process itself) and cooling to a temperature preferably being below 130° C. The drying device (3) and the torrefication chamber (4) are jacketed, which allow performing of the drying as well as the torrefication with steam at over-pressure using indirect heating with the result that the heating medium is not contaminated during its cycle of operation. The heating steam is withdrawn in a steam turbine being part of a power/heating plant or a steam boiler and leaves the system preferably in the form of condensate water (32).
