  • Patent number: 10420095
Abstract: A method of controlling data transmission of a transceiver is disclosed. The method comprises determining that data is pending for transmission by the transceiver and receiving a signal. A current required transmission effort for transmission of the data is estimated based on the received signal and it is determined if data transmission is to be initiated based on the estimated current required transmission effort, required transmission effort statistics and a time criterion associated with the data. Transmission of the data is initiated if it is determined that so should be done and otherwise the decision of transmitting the data is postponed. Corresponding computer program product, processor, arrangement and wireless communication device are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20190261413
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein that relate to the use of a Device-to-Device (D2D) sidelink, e.g., in a licensed spectrum, to assist with clear channel assessment in an unlicensed spectrum. In doing so, the hidden node problem and/or the exposed node problem can be mitigated. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a wireless device in a cellular communications network comprises performing a sidelink-assisted clear channel assessment (SLA-CCA) procedure to determine whether to transmit on an unlicensed channel. The SLA-CCA procedure is a Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) procedure that is assisted by information received by the wireless device from one or more other wireless devices over a D2D sidelink in a licensed spectrum. The method further comprises, upon determining to transmit on the unlicensed channel as a result of performing the SLA-CCA procedure, transmitting a transmission on the unlicensed channel.

  • Patent number: 10375756
Abstract: A communication device is arranged for three main communication states: a detached state, an idle state, and an active state. The communication device connects to the cellular communication network such that a transition from the detached state to any of idle state or active state is made, performs scheduled operations in the active state or idle state, determines, when a transition from the active state to the idle state occurs, a time instant for a next operation in the active state, disconnects from the cellular communication network such that a transition to the detached state is made, and, when the time for next operation in the active state is approaching, connects to the cellular communication network again. A transceiver and a computer program are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10314103
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for creating and using a pattern of radio resources to be shared in a cell between devices using an enhanced-coverage mode and at least one other category of devices. An example method includes forming (810) a resource pattern, the resource pattern indicating an allocation of first radio resources in a first cell to a first type of wireless device and indicating an allocation of second radio resources in the first cell to a second type of wireless device. The resource pattern is sent (820) to a second network node of the wireless communication system, e.g., a network node serving a neighboring cell, or to at least one wireless device, or to both. The resource pattern may be used in scheduling by the first network node or the second network node, or both.

  • Patent number: 10299254
Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a general method for accessing a network when a wireless device, e.g., a user equipment, knows about a wireless network because it can e.g. measure on a cell and read its system information, but is unable to access it. The disclosure relates to transmitting uplink control messages relating to data received in a wireless device and in particular it relates a method, performed in a wireless device supporting a first radio access technology and a second radio access technology, of transmitting uplink control messages relating to data received in the wireless device. The method comprises receiving a configuration message defining in the first radio access technology, a Physical Fast Control Channel for transmission of uplink control messages relating to data received in the wireless device using the second radio access technology and transmitting uplink control messages relating to data received using the second radio access technology on the Physical Fast Control Channel.

  • Patent number: 10159023
Abstract: A method in a wireless communication network for assisting a user equipment to receive signals from a target access node. The wireless communication network comprises the target access node, the user equipment and a serving access node serving the user equipment. The serving access node sends information about time instances to the user equipment. The time instances are scheduled for sending signals from the target access node in a beam direction towards the user equipments. The time instances may be determined in the target access node based on its own position and a position of the user equipment and/or a beam direction of the serving access node. The time instances may also be determined in the serving access node based on its own position and a schedule of the target access node on beam directions versus transmission times. The user equipment receives signals from the target access node during the time instances indicated in the received information.

  • Publication number: 20180359631
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for triggering a long range extension mode of operation for a wireless device in a cellular communications network. In one preferred embodiment, the wireless device is a Machine Type Communication (MTC) device. In one embodiment, a node in the cellular communications network determines that the wireless device is to operate in the long range extension mode if there is difficulty in establishing communication between the wireless device and the cellular communications network. If the wireless device is to operate in the long range extension mode, the node activates one or more long range extension mechanisms with respect to the wireless device such that the wireless device operates in the long range extension mode. In this manner, the long range extension mode is selectively triggered for the wireless device.
