  • Publication number: 20090312633
Abstract: The present invention relates to a reference means (1) comprising at least one reference marker (4) which is applicable temporarily or permanently in a patient's body at a specified location relative to a tumor in the body in order thereafter, by means of the reference marker (4), to enable precision aiming of a treatment beam at the tumor. For universal use and easy application of the reference marker, the reference marker (4) is so configured that it is displayable by both magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) and X-raying, preferably CT, in order to determine by MRT and/or X-raying, preferably CT, the location of the reference marker (4) relative to the tumor for subsequent precision aiming of the treatment beam, and the reference marker (4) is applicable, as desired, either temporarily in the body via a catheter (2) which forms part of the reference means (1) or permanently in the body via an insertion means (11) in the form of a catheter.

  • Publication number: 20090171199
Abstract: A method for permanently applying via the urethra a reference marker in the prostate gland in order by means of the marker to allow precision aiming of a treatment beam at a cancer tumor therein, whereby a catheter comprising a duct and a reference marker disposed for movement in the duct is introduced into the urethra and inserted through it to the prostate gland, a device, with guidance by the reference marker, is caused to, from the duct, penetrate the catheter and/or a membrane totally or partly covering the catheter and is inserted in glandular tissue surrounding the catheter and the urethra, and the marker is thereafter moved by a means along the penetrating and guiding means and is driven by the movement means, with guidance by the penetrating and guiding means, into said glandular tissue for permanent application therein.

  • Patent number: 6487438
Abstract: Apparatus and method for the precision aiming of a radiation beam for treating an internal cancer tumor in a patient. The method of treatment includes introducing at least one reference marker into the patient in a defined and locatable position in relation to the cancer tumor. A defined point in the cross section of the beam is located by a sight that is compared to the position of the reference marker and adjusted to ensure that the treatment beam is directed precisely at the cancer tumor before the remaining doses of radiation are given to the patient. The device according to the invention includes equipment for emitting a treatment beam, a sight arranged in the path of the beam to define a point in the cross section of the beam, and a device to read the beam arranged to receive the beam that has passed through the patient and visualize the position of the at least one said reference marker and the position of the sight.
