  • Publication number: 20230158489
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lab-on-a-chip (LOAC)-system for the rapid detection of e.g. pathogens. The system comprises a tabletop detection apparatus and a portable optical detection cartridge for being received in the inner of the detection apparatus, the cartridges comprising a plurality of test wells for detecting a desired chemical reaction taking place within a respective test well. In embodiments of the invention, the optical detection cartridge is pre-loaded with suitable respective reagents selective for a disease pathogen such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

  • Publication number: 20130029321
Abstract: A sample processing device is disclosed, which sample processing device comprises a first substrate and a second substrate, where the first substrate has a first surface comprising two area types, a first area type with a first contact angle with water and a second area type with a second contact angle with water, the first contact angle being smaller than the second contact angle. The first substrate defines an inlet system and a preparation system in areas of the first type which two areas are separated by a barrier system in an area of the second type. The inlet system is adapted to receive a sample liquid comprising the sample and the first preparation system is adapted to receive a receiving liquid. In a particular embodiment, a magnetic sample transport component, such as a permanent magnet or an electromagnet, is arranged to move magnetic beads in between the first and second substrates.

  • Patent number: 7096877
Abstract: With a method of establishing an enveloped flow in a channel, in the channel an envelopment area (3) with a channel section (6, 7) is configured to which a stub with an outlet is connected, where the stub, which can be configured as a polyhedron, is arranged substantially at right-angles to the envelopment area and with the plane of the outlet substantially at right-angles to the channel section. An inlet channel (9, 11) and an outlet channel (8, 10) are connected to the envelopment area. By providing a narrowing-down in the cross-section of the channel in immediate extension of the envelopment area (3), a hydrodynamic focussing of the sample fluid is achieved when a fluid, such as a sample fluid, is introduced into the stub, and a carrier fluid is introduced into the inlet channel. The advantage of the invention is that since it is necessary only to have two fluid inlets, a relatively simple structure can be established, which can be built up in a monolithic manner, e.g. by injection molding.

  • Publication number: 20040020773
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining and/or monitoring electrophysiological properties of ion channels of ion-channel containing structures uses AC driven location electrodes to drive objects for analysis to a measurement site. The measurement site may comprise an aperture between two solution-containing compartments, each compartment containing a respective measurement electrode. The aperture includes an adhesion region at its periphery and is dimensioned so that the object for analysis cannot pass through the aperture. Alternatively, the measurement site may comprise a measurement electrode surrounded by an adhesion region appropriately dimensioned to receive the object, to which the object may adhere, and a second measurement electrode remote therefrom.
