This axial movement is controlled within predetermined limits by abutment means consisting of cooperating elements of the two friction pads, or of at least one of the friction pads and the clutch disc. The Belleville ring is precompressed in such a way that, within the limits of the axial movement defined by the abutment means, it works only on a part of its characteristic curve in which the reaction force which it exerts is substantially constant.
