  • Patent number: 9268029
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for measuring a two-dimensional distribution of ionizing radiation doses with high spatial resolution. The method comprises exposing radiation sensitive film to a pattern of ionizing radiation to form a measurement film, exposing areas of radiation sensitive film to a plurality of known doses of the ionizing radiation to form a calibration film(s), scanning all the exposed films together with an unexposed radiation sensitive film at a single time to produce a digital image, measuring those areas of the digital image corresponding to the unexposed film and the calibration film(s) exposed to different known doses, associating the measured responses in the areas to the known doses and using the association to convert the values in the scanned image corresponding to the measurement film from scanner response values to dose values. In a preferred embodiment, all of the radiation sensitive films are the same type of film.

  • Patent number: 7168256
Abstract: An apparatus and method for recovering and recycling a coolant gas from a heat exchanger. The apparatus comprises a coolant gas recovery section, and analysis section, and a coolant gas blending section. The coolant gas recovery section recovers a coolant gas containing contaminants from the heat exchanger. The analysis section monitors a condition of an analysis portion of the recovered coolant gas. The coolant gas blending section operates to produce, based on the condition of the recovered coolant gas monitored by the analysis section, a blend coolant gas comprising a virgin coolant gas and a reclaimed coolant gas that comprises at least a portion of the recovered coolant gas. The blend coolant gas has a predetermined contaminant concentration and is recycled into the heat exchanger. Thus, the coolant gas is recovered from, and recycled to, the heat exchanger at the predetermined contaminant concentration without using a purification device.

  • Patent number: 6382227
Abstract: Gas mixtures having precise compositions are prepared by separately pumping the components in liquid phase through piping, vaporizing the components, blending the components and analyzing the mixture for composition. A signal sent to a control unit causes any necessary change in the rate of pumping of the liquid components to reduce the difference between the measured concentration and the desired concentration. When the composition is within desired limits it is charged into gas cylinders.

  • Patent number: 5992478
Abstract: Gas cylinders are filled with mixtures of gases comprising a minor component, which is to be present in the mixture at a concentration of 10% or less of the total volume of the cylinder, and a major component, which is to be present at a concentration greater than about 10% of the total volume, by charging the lighter component into a chamber of given volume to a pressure and at a temperature such that the volume provides the desired fraction of minor component in the gas mixture, and then flushing the minor component into the cylinder using major component gas as the flushing agent. The pressure at which the minor component volume is to be measured is preferably at or near the final pressure of the filled gas cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5452618
Abstract: A mechanism used in connection with determining a time resolved interaction between a target substance, for instance, an adsorbent and at least one agent, for instance, an adsorbate capable of interacting with the target substance. In accordance with the method the target substance and agent(s) are introduced into a sample vessel. At the same time, the target substance is oscillated within the sample vessel without changing the volume of the sample vessel. A concentration of one or more components associated with the time resolved interaction as a function of time is measured by measuring chamber pressure and simultaneously performing a mass spectroscopical analysis of chamber content at discrete time intervals. The target substance is oscillated by a mechanical movement which oscillates a sample holder configured to hold the target substance.
