  • Patent number: 7974442
Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle that identifies and classifies objects (targets) located proximate a vehicle. The system comprises a sensor array that produces imagery that is processed to generate depth maps of the scene proximate a vehicle. The depth maps are processed and compared to pre-rendered templates of target objects that could appear proximate the vehicle. A target list is produced by matching the pre-rendered templates to the depth map imagery. The system processes the target list to produce target size and classification estimates. The target is then tracked as it moves near a vehicle and the target position, classification and velocity are determined. This information can be used in a number of ways. For example, the target information may be displayed to the driver, the information may be used for an obstacle avoidance system that adjusts the trajectory or other parameters of the vehicle to safely avoid the obstacle.

  • Publication number: 20100328489
Abstract: A method for matching the sensitivity characteristic of an image converter to the light-intensity distribution of an optical image which is projected onto the photosensitive surface of the image converter. There are provided steps for creating a frequency distribution of the image signal values in the optical image converted by the image converter, for determining one or more quantiles of the frequency distribution of the image signal values, and for creating a adapted parameter set of setting values of the image converter on the basis of the specific quantile or quantiles of the frequency distribution.

  • Patent number: 7737832
Abstract: An assistance system for motor vehicles has at least one monitoring unit monitoring a space external to a vehicle, in particular in a direction of travel of the motor vehicle, with a warning zone being defined in the monitored external space on each side of a lane. The warning zone is delimited by an earliest warning line and a latest warning line encompassing the respective lane marking or, as the case may be, boundary. An evaluation unit receives the data transmitted by the monitoring unit and generates a warning signal for an acoustic, visual and/or haptic warning and/or a steering intervention if the evaluation unit detects that a defined warning threshold lying within the warning zone is exceeded. The warning signal is issued only as a function of further planned driver-adaptive conditions.
