  • Publication number: 20100322151
Abstract: A telecommunications network, and particularly a mobility management entity (MME) (26) of the telecommunications network, performs negotiation of use of header compression over at least a portion of a backhaul link extending between a base station node (28) and a serving gateway (SGW) (24). In some embodiments the backhaul link comprises a radio link. In certain bearer encapsulation embodiments having radio-interface borne backhaul links a General Packet Radio service Tunneling Protocol (GTP) tunnel traverses between the serving gateway node and a relay base station node. In such bearer encapsulation embodiments the method further comprises handling signaling between the serving gateway node and the relay base station node for negotiating the use of the header compression inside the General Packet Radio service Tunneling Protocol (GTP) tunnel.

  • Publication number: 20100216471
Abstract: A radio base station suitable for performing a handover operation for a LTE-variant of a radio access network comprises a transceiver and a status report requester. The transceiver is configured to facilitate wireless transmission between the radio base station and a wireless terminal over an air interface, including transmission of a radio link bearer for the connection over a downlink from the radio base station to the wireless terminal. The status report requester is configured to determine, according to one or more pre-defined criteria, whether to request from the wireless terminal a status report for a radio bearer prior to the radio base station transferring user data for the connection to another radio base station in conjunction with a handover.

  • Publication number: 20100197308
Abstract: A method and arrangement for handover wherein the handover resource (the dedicated random access preamble) is reserved by the target radio base station (RBS) for a limited period of time, thus increasing the handover efficiency and thereby allowing random access preambles to be used for initial access to a larger extent. The information about the reserved time interval is sent to the UE in the handover command message by means of a frame number offset between the source RBS and the target RBS. The UE uses the information to calculate when to send its synchronisation message to the target RBS. The frame number offset is calculated either by source RBS or by target RBS.

  • Publication number: 20100177721
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for use in a user equipment (10), and relates to a user equipment (10) for enabling a serving base station (40) to estimate interference contribution in a network when scheduling resources for the use equipment. According to the method, the user equipment determines an amount of resources required to send data and the user equipment sends a report to it serving base station when the required amount of resources is greater than a threshold value. In the report, measurements performed by the user equipment are included. The report will assist the serving base station with its estimation of the degree of interference user equipments generates in the network, and hence the power and resources to assign.

  • Patent number: 7693538
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, mobile station and base station in a soft handover cellular communications system. A problem addressed is the complexity imposed by a soft handover combination node in the network for combining packets received from one mobile station over parallel diversity links. The combination node is a problem with respect to the network complexity, transmission capacity and retransmission delays. The present invention solves the problem by selecting on a packet-by-packet basis one of an active set base stations for forwarding the packet further uplink. Thereby no combination node in the network is needed. The mobile stations select the base station after transmitting a packet or prior to transmitting it. The selection is based on measures of the radio link qualities made during transmission of the relevant packet or made prior to its transmission.

  • Publication number: 20090325580
Abstract: A method is described of assigning to a user equipment one or more idle gap patterns in uplink and/or downlink communications between the user equipment and a radio base station, to allow the user equipment to perform downlink measurements on neighbour cells during the idle gaps. The method comprises defining a pre-assigned idle gap pattern; and modifying the pre-assigned idle gap pattern on the basis of one or more short commands sent between the user equipment and the radio base station.

  • Publication number: 20080280611
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellular radio communications system and especially a method, a mobile station and a base station for a smooth hard handover. The smooth hard handover includes preparing radio links in selected base stations for potential communication with a mobile station. This is similar to selecting base stations for the active set in the prior art soft handover. A difference is though that just one radio link is actively used for transmission. The handover from the active to a prepared radio link is quick and safe, as compared to conventional hard handover, because of the preparation, while requiring a less complex system architecture then the conventional soft handover. The smooth hard handover can replace the soft handover.

  • Publication number: 20030092386
Abstract: A system and method of communicating between nodes in an ad-hoc frequency-hopping based communication infrastructure, such as a Bluetooth system. The scheduling of page scan and inquiry scan periods within a piconet is based on a pseudo-random principle. By using pseudo-random scheduling of the inquiry scan and page scan intervals, the position of each interval can be easily predicted in advance. Periodic windows are predefined for a communicating node pair. Each of the periodic windows include a time point, i.e., slot, the location of which changes in a pseudo-random manner in consecutive periodic windows.

  • Publication number: 20020176412
Abstract: A system and method of communicating between nodes in an ad hoc polling based communication infrastructure such as a Bluetooth system. Frames on a link between two nodes are designated as checkpoint frames on which each of the two nodes checks for presence of the other. Based upon factors such as attendance or absence of the checkpoint frames and usage of the link, one or the other node can adjust the node checking intensity and the other node follows suit in accordance with predefined rules. The checkpoint frames can either be periodic or pseudo random.

  • Patent number: 6438104
Abstract: A link level flow control method for serving ATM cell streams arriving from a number of packet sources determines a requested bandwidth share for each packet source and queues ATM cells arriving from the packet sources in a shared FIFO buffer. Based on the number of transmitted ATM cells during a pre-defined time period, non-violating packet sources and violating packet sources are identified. The non-violating packet sources are those packet sources that during the predefined time period do not require more than their requested bandwidth share, and the violating packet sources are those packet sources that during the same period require more than their requested bandwidth share. In order to maintain fairness among the packet sources, the non-violating packet sources are granted no more than their requested bandwidth share, with the remaining bandwidth not granted to the non-violating packet sources being granted to the violating packet sources.
