  • Publication number: 20230358902
Abstract: A radiation-sensitive device is disclosed. The radiation-sensitive device includes: a plurality of single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs), and processing circuitry configured to determine an intensity of incident radiation using at least one of the plurality SPADs. An amount of the SPADs used to determine the intensity of the incident radiation varies in relation to the intensity of the incident radiation. Also disclosed in an associated method of determining an intensity of radiation incident upon such a radiation-sensitive device, and uses of the radiation-sensitive device in an electronic-nose or point-of-care apparatus, or for ambient light sensing.

  • Publication number: 20230332948
Abstract: A radiation-sensitive device is disclosed. The device includes an array of single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) and circuitry configured to measure an intensity of incident radiation from the array of SPADs with a plurality of different measurement windows to provide an associated plurality of results. The circuitry is configured to determine the intensity of the incident radiation from one of the plurality of results, a selection of the result determined by whether the result exceeds a maximum count defined, at least in part, by a duration of the measurement window associated with the result. An associated method of increasing a dynamic range of a radiation-sensitive device comprising an array of SPADs is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20230324220
Abstract: A radiation-sensitive device is disclosed. The device comprises a plurality of single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) and circuitry configured to adapt a read-out rate of the plurality of SPADs in relation to an intensity of incident radiation. Also disclosed is an associated method of increasing a dynamic range of a radiation-sensitive device comprising a plurality of SPADs. The method comprises adapting a read-out rate of the plurality of SPADs in relation to an intensity of incident radiation.

  • Patent number: 6633676
Abstract: Method and arrangement for encoding a video signal, wherein a selection (39) is made between the generation of a motion-compensated encoded video signal (I, B, P) and the generation of a higher-resolution picture (IH). The creation of the higher-resolution picture (IH) relies on estimating motion in a series of subsequent pictures (f1,2,3, . . . ) of lower resolution. The higher-resolution picture (IH) is interpolated (38) from these pictures (f1,2,3, . . . ). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, previously determined regions of interest (S(ROI)) are selected (36) from the video signal. The pictures relating to these regions of interest (f1,2,3, . . . ) occupy less memory (33) than entire pictures as picked up by an image sensor (2). A conventional picture memory (33) is sufficient to store the series of pictures (f1,2,3, . . . ) that relates to a certain region of interest. Motion estimation (31) is performed on these pictures and their motion vectors (m) are stored in a vector memory (37).

  • Publication number: 20010041012
Abstract: The invention provides a parallel data processing device having an array of parallel processing elements (LPA1 . . . 320) for processing a signal to obtain parallel streams of data, and means (TSMM1 . . . 80) for shuffling the parallel streams of data in a block-wise manner. The data shuffling means (TSMM1 . . . 80) have an array of addressable switch memory matrices (TSMM1 . . . 80) which are each coupled to a predetermined number of processing elements (LPA1 . . . 320). The array of switch memory matrices (TSMM1 . . . 80) solves data flow limitations of highly parallel linear array processors as well as intermediate storage requirements of image processing algorithms. In a camera system the parallel data processing device is combined with a sensor array (S).

  • Patent number: 6249548
Abstract: In a motion vector processing method, a motion vector (MV) is generated (MV-EVAL, MV-MEM) for a given picture part (I) based on a selection of a motion vector out of a predetermined set of motion vectors to obtain a selected motion vector, and the given picture part (I) is supplied (EOC) together with a selection indication (SI) of the selected motion vector. In an image signal decoder, motion data are obtained from the selection indication (SI), and an output picture part is generated based on the given picture part (I) and the motion data.
