  • Patent number: 5322893
Abstract: Vulcanized blends of EPDM rubber and aromatic polyester are provided by melt extruding mixtures of aromatic polyester, such as polyalkylene terephthalate and functionalized EPDM reactive rubber pairs. An EPDM functionalized with epoxy groups can be vulcanized with an EPDM rubber functionalized with thermally labile ester groups capable of generating epoxy reactive carboxylic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 8, 1993
Date of Patent: June 21, 1994
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Andra J. Moffett, Marinus E. J. Dekkers, Timothy J. Shea, John R. Campbell
  • Patent number: 5272206
Abstract: Vulcanized blends of poly(etherimide ester) copolymer or poly(ether-ester-amide) block copolymer with epoxy functionalized EPDM rubber are provided having enhanced elastic recovery %. Vulcanization of compatibilized blends of the poly(etherimide ester) copolymers or poly(ether-ester-amide) block copolymers with epoxy functionalized EPDM rubber can be effected with crosslinking agents, such as, organic diamines.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: December 21, 1993
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Andra J. Moffett, Marijn E. J. Dekkers
  • Patent number: 5208287
Abstract: Melt blends of thermoplastic aromatic polyester, such as polybutylene terethphalate, with epoxy functionalized EPDM rubber or orthoester functionalized EPDM rubber and an effective amount of a crosslinking agent, such as a free radical initiator, have been found to provide thermoplastic elastomers having an elastic recovery % of at least 70.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 17, 1991
Date of Patent: May 4, 1993
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Marijn E. J. Dekkers, Andra J. Moffett
  • Patent number: 5132361
Abstract: Ethylenically unsaturated cyclic ortho esters are prepared by the reaction of a hydroxy-substituted cyclic ortho ester such as 4-hydroxymethyl-2-methoxy-2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane with acryloyl chloride, methacryolyl choride, vinylbenzyl chloride or the like. They form polymers, especially EPDM graft copolymers, which are useful in the formation of copolymer-containing compositions with polyesters, polyamides and the like. The copolymer-containing compositions have excellent physical properties and may be employed to compatabilize blends of the same polymers.
