  • Patent number: 5502555
Abstract: An electronic reprographic machine having an image characteristics method and apparatus for automatic in-process copy sheet supply reselection. The reprographic machine includes simplex and duplex modes, an electronic imaging data processing unit and a plurality of copy sheet supply units holding different types of alternative copy sheets, such as recycled paper sheets, transparencies, coated or plain paper sheets. The reprographic machine also includes programmable controller for detecting the presence or absence of a specified type of imaging data, and for then automatically and responsively selecting a type of copy sheet so as to provide high quality, cost effective copies of multi-page documents.

  • Patent number: 5111320
Abstract: A light shutter is provided wherein a first plate which includes a pixel electrode for use in applying a includes a background electrode located adjacent the pixel voltage potential across a ferroelectric material also electrode and substantially surrounding the pixel electrode, whereby an electronic mask can be created adjacent the pixel electrode in the ferroelectric material. A second plate which, along with the first plate sandwiches the ferroelectric material, includes a backplane electrode which is used in conjunction with the pixel and background electrodes on the first plate for applying voltage potentials across the ferroelectric material.

  • Patent number: 4830468
Abstract: A linear array of liquid crystal shutters mounted near a photoreceptor surface and arranged transversely to the direction of travel of the photoreceptor surface, an array of multiplexed thin film transistors (TFT's) connected to the array of liquid crystal shutters for electrically driving the shutters and logic means connected to the multiplexed array of thin film resistors selectively pulsing the liquid crystal shutters to selectively expose the photoreceptor surface a line at a time. The system further includes a single backplane and circuit means for producing an electric field between the backplane and electrodes of each of the liquid crystal shutters to prevent passage of light through the shutters and means for selectively de-energizing each of the pairs of electrodes for predetermined time period in response to the receipt of input data signals.

  • Patent number: 4475806
Abstract: A display for use in conjunction with a copier. The disclosed display comprises two microprocessors for controllably displaying information on a display panel of a xerographic copier. A first microprocessor is primarily responsible for energizing alphanumeric elements to either send messages to the copier user or to prompt the user to interact with the copier. A second display is a liquid crystal display wherein selectively energizable liquid crystal elements corresponding to copier components can be rendered visible under the control of the second microprocessor. An overlay pattern can be placed above the liquid crystal display to present to the user in outline form the copier architecture with which he is interacting. This overlay can be changed as the copier configuration is changed. The electronics for controlling the display of alphanumeric allows the utilization of different fonts and/or different languages.

  • Patent number: 3932025
Abstract: There is disclosed an imaging system for forming a plurality of images on the same surface. The imaging system includes an electro-optic imaging member comprising a voltage or current-sensitive light modulating layer, a layer of photoconductive material which exhibits persistent photoconduction properties and a layer of material capable of generating photoinjection currents when struck by radiation which it absorbs.
