  • Patent number: 11196652
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to aspects of assessing performance of a session between an OTT service provider endpoint and an OTT service recipient endpoint in regard of a particular OTT service. The performance assessment is based on a series of data records generated for the session. Data record generation includes monitoring, at a network site between the two endpoints and during successive periods of time, at least one transport layer connection of the session. The monitoring is performed to determine, for each period of time, an activity metric indicative of a pending transport layer activity of the session in the respective period of time. This activity metric is then evaluated in connection with service performance assessment.

  • Patent number: 9743306
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for performance reporting in a wireless network, wherein at least one terminal is associated to a terminal report server by means of information in the terminal. Prior to initiating the performance report, information on operator identity is retrieved. The operator identity is combined with information identifying the associated terminal report server to compile a fully qualified domain name. Connectivity information to the terminal server report is requested and received from a domain name server, whereupon a performance report session to the terminal report server is initiated using the received connectivity information. The invention also relates to a terminal wherein the inventive method is applied.

  • Patent number: 9020490
Abstract: A method and caching server for enabling caching of a portion of a media file in a User Equipment (UE) in a mobile telecommunications network. The caching server selects the media file and determines a size of the portion to be cached in the UE. The size may be determined depending on radio network conditions for the UE and/or characteristics of the media file. The caching server sends an instruction to the UE to cache the determined size of the portion of the media file in the UE.

  • Publication number: 20140344471
Abstract: Apparatus for handling packets within a Progressive Download stream for delivery from a media server to a client terminal over an access network. The apparatus comprises a session analysis module for determining, for each packet of the Progressive Download stream, one or both of e) a playout latency factor indicative of the time duration until the media within the packet is required to be played out at the client terminal, and f) a quality factor indicative of the importance of the media within the packet to the quality of the media to be played out at the client terminal. The apparatus further comprises a prioritisation module for determining an access network delivery priority for the packet, or to be applied to the Progressive Download stream, using the playout latency factor and/or the quality factor.

  • Patent number: 8804492
Abstract: A method is provided in a network management node for handling an alarm caused by a fault in a communications system. An alarm caused by a fault in the communications system is received from a first network element within the communications system. The alarm is associated with an identity of the first network element, and an alarm time associated with the time when the alarm was active. After receiving the alarm, the network management node sends a request to a user activity database, requesting one or more matching records. Each of the matching records is requested to comprise an identity equal to the identity of the first network element associated with the alarm, and a record time period that comprises the time when the alarm was active.

  • Patent number: 8526434
Abstract: There are provided a scalable method for mobility management applied to an IP-based network system including a plurality of routers and a plurality of servers, a part of which serve as a home routing manager (HRM), a part of which serve as local routing managers (LRM) for individual mobile nodes. The method at least comprises the steps of sending a first query about a routing address of a destination mobile node toward the HRM, based on an activation notification (AN) from an ingress access router (AR) of the plurality of routers, triggered by a source mobile mode, from an LRM receiving the activation notification; relaying the first query via one or more intermediate routing managers (IRM) closer to the HRM until the first query reaches the HRM; and in response to the first query, sending the routing address of the destination mobile node back to the ingress access router through the relay path from the HRM.

  • Patent number: 8077648
Abstract: There are provided a method, a network system, and a router capable of decreasing the chance of VRM or VLM changes so as to reduce signaling, and consequently contributing to better scalability. The method is applied to mobility management used in an IP-based network system, which contains a plurality of access routers (AR), location managers (LM) and routing managers (RM), through which a mobile node (MN) transmits and receives information. According to the method, a visited routing manager (VRM) where the MN is currently located monitors the MN, an AR currently communicating with the MN discriminates whether or not the MN is moving out of its connectivity range, and the VRM discriminates whether or not the MN is moving out of its control range. Then, the method switches mobility management over from the current AR to a new AR in accordance with the discrimination results, and switches mobility management over from the current VRM to a new VRM in accordance with the discrimination result.

  • Patent number: 7965695
Abstract: The system includes a mobile node (101) communicating with a correspondent node (102), a home agent node (131) managing the mobile node (101), a proxy node (121) being located closer to the mobile node (101) than the home agent node (131) and relaying the packets from the mobile node (101) to the home agent node (131), and a routing manager (141) managing a route of the packets. The proxy node (121) detects a trigger of a packet route optimization and notifies the routing manager (141). The proxy node (121) establishes the optimized routing path according to a command received from the routing manager (141) and routes the packets through the established routing path using a secure method.
