  • Patent number: 6214027
Abstract: A device for controlling the reflex response of a muscle or muscular group articulating a living body joint by applying a specific mechanical stimulation (SMS) to the external area of the joint which corresponds to the mechano-receptors guiding a natural reflex of the muscle or muscular group. The embodiments of the device include a support member adapted to be mounted to the wrist ankle or lumbar spine joint, a pressure-applying member and a resilient portion interposed between the support member and the pressure-applying member to continuously apply a required pressure intensity during articulation movements of the joint. The mechano-receptors include skin mechano-receptors and deeper joint mechano-receptors. The reflex response of muscles articulating a joint is facilitated by a low external SMS pressure intensity and inhibited by a high external SMS pressure intensity.

  • Patent number: 5769803
Abstract: To control the reflex response of a muscle or muscular group articulating a joint of a living body, the method and device apply an external pressure to the mechano-receptors guiding the natural reflex mechanism of the muscle or muscular group. The mechano-receptors include skin mechano-receptors and deeper joint mechano-receptors. To increase the reflex response of the muscle or muscular group, a light pressure intensity .ltoreq. 200 mmHg is applied to stimulate only the skin mechano-receptors and thereby increase the reflex response of the muscle or muscular group. To inhibit the reflex response of the muscle or muscular group, a high pressure intensity .gtoreq. 400 mmHg is applied to stimulate the deeper joint mechano-receptors such as the Golgi tendons to thereby increase the reflex response of the muscle or muscular group.

  • Patent number: 5222979
Abstract: A shaped block that can be used for chiropractic treatment. The block has a base, a rear end face, an upper face parallel to the base and merging with the upper edge of the rear end face, a rectangular front end face merging with the front end of the base, and an upper oblique portion between the upper face and the front end face inclined between 60.degree. to 85.degree.. The oblique portion has a first upper inwardly curved section descending from an inner edge of the upper face, an intermediate flat face portion following the first curved section and raised above the plane of the oblique portion, and lifted 7.degree. to 9.degree. at the lower end, and a lower curved section between the intermediate flat face and the second end face. Irregular faces connect these parts together into a block. The faces of the curved section are anti-skidding so as to engage human body portion under treatment while preventing it from sliding along the curved surfaces. The block is made of soft rubbery material.

  • Patent number: 4475542
Abstract: A block intended for chiropractic treatment which comprises a base; an end face substantially perpendicular to said base at one end of said base; an oblique portion extending substantially from the top of said end face downwardly to substantially the other end of said base; lateral faces connecting said base, said end face and said oblique portion. A method of chiropractic treatment with a person lying on his back which comprises providing blocks as defined above, inserting one block underneath said person so as to rest one femoral head on one side of said person against said oblique portion of said one block, said one block being oriented towards the upper part of the body of said person, inserting a second block underneath said person with the oblique portion of said block at the level of the iliac crest on the other side of said person, said second block being in line with said first block but oriented towards the lower part of the body of said person, said treatment lasting about ten minutes.
