  • Publication number: 20140140454
Abstract: Embodiments herein include a method of channel estimation in a wireless communication node. The method comprises generating, based on samples of a received signal, initial estimates of a plurality of channel coefficients forming a channel response. The method also entails, for each of the channel coefficients, dynamically calculating a coefficient-specific filter span for that channel coefficient. Notably, the coefficient-specific filter span for any given channel coefficient is calculated according to a closed-form function that minimizes aggregated estimation noise for the channel coefficient and estimation bias attributable to errors in tracking the channel coefficient. The method finally includes adapting filtering of the initial estimates independently for each of the channel coefficients to be performed over the coefficient-specific filter span calculated for that channel coefficient.

  • Publication number: 20140137555
Abstract: The invention can be a method for maintaining an operating temperature of a power plant during shut-down periods. The method can include, during shut-down of the power plant, generating heat with an electric heater in order to approximately maintain the operating temperature of the power plant. The method can use electric power to operate the electric heater, where at least some of the electric power is from an electricity grid external to the power plant. The method can continue to generate heat with the electric heater as long as at least one of the electrical prices and the demand for electricity indicate that it will be more efficient to use electric power from the electricity grid to generate heat with the electric heater than to more completely shut down or restart the power plant.

  • Publication number: 20140138246
Abstract: Water treatment, reconditioning, and reclamation systems and methods are described. The systems utilize two treatment vectors. The first treatment vector is created by flowing electrical current through a first conductive rod. The second treatment vector is created by delivering a magnetic pulse by way of a second conductive rod. Water to be treated is exposed to the two vectors simultaneously, which is accomplished by creating relative motion between the conductive rods and the water, either by moving the conductive rods or by moving the water. The electric current of the first treatment vector and the voltage and frequency of the magnetic pulse of the second treatment vector may be reduced as the treatment process proceeds. During treatment, total dissolved solids (TDS) rise and congeal at the top of the water. The congealed TDS are removed from the water. An additional filtering process may be applied.
