  • Patent number: 7575424
Abstract: A mold and molding device for forming a sunken groove in a tire is provided. The molding device includes a thin flexible wire having a desired cross-sectional shape. The wire thickness can range from about 0.5 mm to about 5 mm. The flexible wire is preferably hyperelastic. An optional molding element may be connected to the flexible wire.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 14, 2007
Date of Patent: August 18, 2009
Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
Inventors: Gia-Van Nguyen, Yacine Ouyahia, Alain Emile Francois Roesgen, Yvan Sac, Francis Bartholome, Gerard Louis Marie Schmit, Anne-France Gabrielle Jeanne-Marie Cambron, Joel Andre Ghislain Delogne, Guy Jacobs, Andre Domange

  • Patent number: 7143799
Abstract: Both a mold blade for forming sipes and the sipe so formed in a tire tread element have three dimensional portions. In the formed sipe, the three dimensional portion creates a constant interlocking of the opposing sipe faces. The blade and the sipe have at least one row of alternating polygonal shaped recesses and protrusions. The recesses and protrusions terminate in a vertex; the vertex has a planar, or two-dimensional, configuration that is parallel to either-the blade centerline or the sipe centerline.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 20, 2003
Date of Patent: December 5, 2006
Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company

  • Publication number: 20030101851
Abstract: Method of manufacturing a composite blade (300 through 313) having at least two blade portions (101, 201), for a tire curing mold having the steps of providing a first strip (100) of metallic material commonly used to form blades for tire curing molds; stamping or punching out from the strip various shapes to make main blade portions (101); providing a second strip (200) of metallic material; stamping or punching out from the second strip (200) a further set of blade portions (201) having a longitudinal and lateral dimensions which are preferably at most equal to those of the first blade portions (101), assembling at least one of the first and at least one of the second blade portions (201); and affixing the different blade portions (101, 201) together.
