  • Patent number: 12442245
Abstract: A laminated door core for use in fire rated doors includes a center layer having a first side and an opposing second side, where the center layer comprises fire rated particleboard. The laminated door core also includes a first layer comprising calcium silicate adhered to the first side of the center layer, a second layer comprising calcium silicate adhered to the second side of the center layer, a first layer of high-density fiberboard adhered over the first layer of calcium silicate, and a second layer of high-density fiberboard adhered over the second layer of calcium silicate. A vertical stile may be positioned along each opposing longitudinal edge of the laminated door core, and a horizontal rail may be positioned along each of a top end and a bottom end of the laminated door core.

  • Patent number: 7921614
Abstract: A fire-rated light kit for a fire-resistant partition includes a track for holding a window pane in an aperture of the partition. The track includes a channel for capturing an edge of the window pane, and a flange. A first intumescent material is positioned under the track to seal between the track and the partition. A second intumescent layer is positioned on top of the track. A flammable molding material can be positioned over the flange of the track. In the event of heat or flame, the second intumescent layer expands and pushes the flammable trim away from the glass and/or partition.

  • Publication number: 20070000925
Abstract: A fire and heat resistant storage unit for housing electronic media includes a core body portion of heat resistant material surrounded by an outer shell. An opening in a bottom wall of the outer shell allows a user access to a housing unit that is placed in the core body portion. A locking cap seals off the opening in the outer shell and a handle attached to the outer shell aids a user in flipping the storage unit from an access position in which a user can access the housing, to a storage or in-use position in which the bottom wall is directly adjacent a relatively planar support surface. Such a configuration significantly increases the fire and heat resistance of the storage unit and allows electronic media to be stored safely without being damaged.

  • Publication number: 20060096240
Abstract: A laminated fire door including a core, containing panels or boards made from an organic material including flax, and a fibrous binder constituting a sodium silicate adhesive, is used to make a door exhibits at least a 45 minute fire rating. In accordance with a preferred form of the invention, the fire door core is formed by using a silicate adhesive, preferably sodium silicate, in the order of 25 mils (0.6 mm) to laminate together two flax boards, each having a thickness in the range of 0.625-0.875 inches (approximately 16-22 mm), with each of the laminated flax boards having a density of between 20 and 45 pounds per cubic foot (320-700 kgs/m3).

  • Publication number: 20040163571
Abstract: A fire resistant wood door is formed from an opposing pair of rails interconnected by a upper and lower stiles forming an outer frame. A wood laminate core is provided within the outer frame and covered by outer sheathing. The wood laminate core is formed from first and second panels and a heat barrier layer. Each of the first and second panels is formed from an organic material and provided with a plurality of grooves on one surface. The heat barrier layer is in the form of a casting applied to the grooved surface of at least one, and preferably both, of the first and second panels. The panels are then joined together with the heat barrier layer sandwiched therebetween. When joined with the outer frame and sheathing, a wood door is formed having a fire rating of at least 45 minutes.
