  • Patent number: 11759674
Abstract: A ground-effect footplate against which a user applies plantar force and moves their foot in 3D across all seven lower-extremity biomechanical axes to accomplish specific as well as global ambulatory objectives related to lower extremity performance improvement, injury prevention and rehabilitation. A device comprising at least one articulating leg connected to a ground-effect footplate and a surface for a user to position against. The device can be used in conjunction with software to create virtual ambulatory environments that mimic GRFVs and cause moments of force that initiate muscular activations that substantially mimic human ambulation, and can couple those movements with non-functional movements in order to improve ROM, speed, strength, and proprioception.

  • Patent number: 8070659
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to an orthopedic exerciser and its actuating mechanism which, more specifically, are used for therapy, post-surgery rehabilitation or healing of a knee, of a joint, or the muscles of a leg or any other body member. Such exercisers usually allow a combination of exercises that help in the recovery of the joint, but to minimize the chances of further injuring the body part and therefore increase the recovery process, the exerciser must submit the body part to a controlled level of force. The orthopedic exerciser of the present invention includes an actuating mechanism cooperating with a resistance assembly which provides resistance and/or assistance along different directions of movement of the actuating mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7874968
Abstract: A leg rehabilitation apparatus comprises a base including first and second base members, wherein the first base member is linearly adjustably connected to the second base member. The first base member including an adjustable thigh support member attached thereto; the second base member including a movable boom attached thereto via a resistance module that offers adjustable dynamic resistance there between during relative movements thereof. The adjustable boom including a bracket that is linearly movable along the length of the boom; the bracket including an adjustable foot and ankle rest, such that a user can place their thigh upon the thigh support member and a foot within the foot and ankle rest and thereby move their leg in a plurality of motions against the resistance of the resistance module in order to exercise and rehabilitate chosen muscle groups within the leg.

  • Patent number: 6224521
Abstract: An orthopedic apparatus for rehabilitation or healing of a knee or the muscles of a leg. The apparatus has a dynamic adjustment mechanism allowing the execution of exercise of different degrees of tension without running the risk of injuring the knee by applying unnecessary or excessive amount of tension on the knee. The dynamic adjustment mechanism is designed to keep the eccentricity of the rotational axes of the leg support member and the leg nil. The orthopedic apparatus may also include a resistance or assistance mechanism for adjusting different degrees of tension during extension and flexion of the leg in order to gain either range of movement or strength. This specially designed mechanism provides a linear type resistance or assistance, which is invariable during the whole range of movement. This particular resistance, applied on the plantar foot, reproduces normal bio-mechanical stress on the lower limb.
