  • Patent number: 5484697
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for preparing a photographic tabular silver halide grains emulsion. The method is characterized in that the twinned silver halide seeds are precipitated, either in an external static nucleator working in laminar flow regime with a Reynolds number less than 2100, or in a kettle with a very low stirring rate with respect to the one generally used, and in that the concentration of the Ag.sup.+ ion solution is ranging from 0.04 to 0.3M.Obtained are tabular silver halide grains, the diameter distribution of which is less than 15%.

  • Patent number: 4386156
Abstract: Radiation-sensitive emulsions are disclosed containing tabular silver bromide grains bounded by two substantially parallel square or rectangular crystal faces and having an average aspect ratio of at least 8.5:1. The tabular grains preferably exhibit a coefficient of variation of less than 30. The tabular grains are formed by providing cubic seed grains having an edge length of less than 0.15 micron and ripening the seed grains at a pAg in the range of from 5.0 to 8.0 in the substantial absence of non-halide silver ion complexing agents.

  • Patent number: 4334012
Abstract: An improved silver halide precipitation process of preparing a dispersion of silver halide grains is disclosed. The process comprises forming a radiation-sensitive silver halide dispersion by reacting silver and halide salts in solution within a dispersing medium to form silver halide grain nuclei within the dispersing medium and allowing silver halide grain growth to occur in a reaction vessel in which the silver halide grain nuclei and the dispersing medium are present. The improvement comprises, while increasing silver halide present in the dispersing medium during silver halide grain growth, reducing the volume of the dispersion by separating a portion of the dispersing medium while retaining the silver halide grains within the remaining dispersion.
