  • Patent number: 11981116
Abstract: An anisotropic composite material assembly comprising a first layer with a tensile modulus different from its compressive modulus and that exhibits variable modulus behavior. The first layer elastically buckle under compressions. A second layer has a tensile modulus substantially the same as its compressive modulus. The first and second layers are joined together, and the assembly is bendable in a first direction with an outer surface of the first layer being in compression and the assembly has a first bending stiffness during bending in the first direction. The assembly is bendable in a second direction opposite the first direction with the outer surface of the first layer being in tension, and the assembly has a second bending stiffness greater than the first bending stiffness during bending in the second direction.

  • Patent number: 9923786
Abstract: A system and method for performing a service discovery on a distributed computer system includes obtaining information of a service that is provided by a host computer in the distributed computer system and embedding the information into a Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) data frame to be transmitted from the host computer to another component of the distributed computer system.

  • Publication number: 20140376550
Abstract: The disclosure herein describes a system, which provides uniform access to a gateway in an extended virtualized layer-2 network. During operation, the system identifies a media access control (MAC) address, which is associated with a respective gateway in the extended virtualized layer-2 network, in a layer-2 header of a data frame. This MAC address is specific to the extended virtualized layer-2 network (e.g., for a different extended virtualized layer-2 network, a different MAC address is associated with a respective gateway). The system modifies the layer-2 header by swapping the MAC address with another MAC address, which uniquely identifies a gateway in the extended virtualized layer-2 network, in the layer-2 header and forwards the frame with the modified header to the gateway.

  • Patent number: 8792330
Abstract: Techniques for recovering from hierarchical virtual private LAN service (HVPLS) hub connectivity failure are described herein. In one embodiment of the invention, a provider edge network element reuses an HVPLS spoke connectivity failure recovery mechanism in an MTU to protect against a failure of HVPLS hub connectivity. The PE network element monitors hub facing connectivity elements and declares a hub connectivity failure upon a certain amount of those hub facing connectivity elements failing, and fabricates a failure of its spoke facing connectivity elements causing the MTU to detect an HVPLS spoke connectivity failure and switch to a secondary HVPLS spoke connection. Other methods and apparatuses are described.
