Patent number: 6238452Abstract: A method for making steel in an electric furnace, wherein a predetermined amount of liquid melt is fed into the electric furnace. The method comprises the steps of (a) continuously feeding a controlled flow of liquid melt into the furnace without interrupting the heating from the electric arc, (b) continuously injecting a refining gas into the furnace before the C and/or Si content of the metal bath reaches a predetermined value, until the end of the feeding process, and (c) pursuing the injection of refining gas after the predetermined amount of melt has been fed into the furnace, until the target value for the C and/or Si content of the metal bath has been reached.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1998Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Paul Wurth, S.A.Inventors: André Kremer, Guy Denier, Jean-Luc Roth

Patent number: 5715888Abstract: An ingot mould for a continuous casting plant is described, comprising an ingot mould body (22), which defines an axial flow channel (18) for molten metal and which contains a circuit for cooling this axial flow channel (18). The ingot mould body (22) is surrounded, at least partially, by an outer casing (44) in which it is supported axially using a hydraulic/pneumatic suspension device, for example a cylinder with rotational symmetry whose axis of symmetry is coaxial with the casting axis. This hydraulic/pneumatic suspension device is preferably controlled by a hydraulic/pneumatic control system (72) designed to make the ingot mould body (22) oscillate about a reference position.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1996Date of Patent: February 10, 1998Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Norbert Kaell, Andre Kremer, Rudy Petry, Michel Rinaldi

Patent number: 5419669Abstract: An automated installation for lining a wall of an enclosure with brickwork is presented. This installation comprises a brick laying robot, a depalletizing module, a lifting module, a supply module and a centering ring module. At the level of the centering module which is installed on a working platform, a device for the sequential transfer of the bricks transfers the bricks into a centering position at the periphery of the working platform. In this centering position, the bricks are centered before the brick-laying robot comes to take them up.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1993Date of Patent: May 30, 1995Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Andre Kremer, Victor Kremer, Jeannot Konsbruck, Jean-Jacques Willieme

Patent number: 5333842Abstract: An apparatus is provided for supplying media to a blowing lance, particularly a blowing lance used in the production of steel by a top blowing process. A vertically movable lance carrier comprises a media connection device having a vertical connection surface. Before coupling, the blowing lance is first locked on the lance carrier by a fastening device. The connection device is movable horizontally in guide rails on the lance carrier from a waiting position towards the coupling head of the blowing lance.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1993Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Hubert Stomp, Andre Kremer, Daniel Fries, Marc Reichert, Serge Devillet

Patent number: 5301928Abstract: The invention relates to a blowing lance suspension with integrated medium supply. In accordance with this invention, a U-shaped medium collector box having a horizontal top plate as carrier arm and a first connection surface is provided on the lance carriage. The medium connection pipes lead into this first connection surface. A lance carrier plate is provided, at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the lance, on the top part of the lance. The underside of the lance carrier plate forms a second connection surface into which the medium distributor pipes of the lance lead fittingly. After the lance has been laid down on the carrier arm of the lance carriage, the lance carrier plate is carried by the horizontal top plate, so that between the first and second connection surfaces, the connection of the medium pipes is made through the action of gravity.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1993Date of Patent: April 12, 1994Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Hubert Stomp, Andre Kremer, Daniel Fries, Marc Reichert

Patent number: 5018923Abstract: Automated installation for the laying for masonry on a wall, especially of a converter, comprising an operating station with a work plateform movable vertically inside the enclosure and capable of rotating about the vertical axis of the latter, areas for the simultaneous storage of two pallets of bricks on the platform, a robot for handling and laying the bricks, a monitoring and control station, retractable props for stabilizing the operating station and a device for raising and lowering pallets of bricks. The entire operating station is supported by a telescopic mast mounted on a turntable of a movable floor which is located outside the enclosure and with which the operating station forms a retractable self-propelled or towable unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1989Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Corneille Melan, Jeannot Konsbruck, Andre Kremer

Patent number: 4893791Abstract: An automatic lance changeover device is presented wherein a radially guided ring is axially vertically displaceable by two lifting spindle systems provided on each side of the ring and bears pivotable hooks for receiving the lance and for pressing the latter axially against a sealing surface on the coupling head. The hooks are connected to the stationary coupling head via pivotable connecting rods whose length is alterable, these connecting rods being eccentrically articulated on the support pin of the hooks with the bearing bore at the coupling head end of the connecting rods having a larger diameter than the associated wrist pin. When the ring is axially displaced, the hooks, which have swung out, in a first phase, initially surround the supporting pins on the upper part of the lance as the ring is displaced further, the hooks, without executing any further pivoting movement, pull the lance head into sealing contact with the coupling head.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1988Date of Patent: January 16, 1990Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Hubert Stomp, Carlo Heintz, Andre Kremer, Jean Monai, Daniel Fries, Serge Devillet

Patent number: 4540058Abstract: An apparatus is presented for weighing heavy loads, particularly those loads having to be laterally supported during the weighing operation. The weighing apparatus comprises a vertical column supported on its base by pressure cells and provided on its top surface with a support structure. This support structure retains the material to be weighed. A guide tube is provided coaxially around the column and a rotating sleeve with bearing elements is mounted between the column and the guide tube. A motor is mounted on the guide tube for rotating the sleeve during the weighing operation. The weighing apparatus is particularly well suited for use in conjunction with a casting ladle used in revolving turrets during continuous casting.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1984Date of Patent: September 10, 1985Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Andre Kremer, Marcel Wolwert

Patent number: 4492342Abstract: A rotatable drum, which bears beater bars and is intended for use in pulverizing metallurgical slag, is defined by abutting conduits which are welded to one another and to a tubular support. The arrays of conduits, through which a coolant is circulated, is interrupted at a number of locations spaced radially about the support where radially outwardly extending beater bars are welded to the same support. The beater bars are also provided with internal passages through which the coolant is circulated.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1981Date of Patent: January 8, 1985Inventors: Clement Burton, Andre Kremer, Hubert Stomp, Marc Solvi
