Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating products having a wide range of particle sizes wherein the product is dried or cooled with a supply of fluid such as a hot gas and wherein the product is positively retained on a generally horizontal fluid-bed bedplate with the product being conveyed along the bedplate by directing the fluid supply in a predominantly horizontal direction relative to the upper surface of the bedplate. In some embodiments, portions of the fluid supply may be redirected or pulsed so as to increase product treatment, efficiency and product conveyance.
