    Abstract: An assembly may include a first conductive layer extending along a longitudinal axis, the first conductive layer including a first portion and a second portion laterally spaced from the first portion by an insulating region. The first portion of the first conductive layer is configured to at least partially contact a nanoscale device. A second conductive layer may extend along the longitudinal axis, the second conductive layer extending over the second portion and the insulating region. The second conductive layer is configured to at least partially contact the nanoscale device. At least a portion of the assembly may define an electron-transparent width in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis. A method may include operating the nanoscale device within the assembly, and imaging the nanoscale device within the assembly during the operating to generate an image of the nanoscale device.
