    Abstract: This device is interposed between two lengths of an optical fiber lead-in cable comprising a core constitution by a small diameter stainless steel tube containing a bundle of optical fibers comprises: a metal plug which is brazed to the end of one length of tube and which includes a barrel including a cavity whose diameter is not less than the diameter of the bundle of fibers and whose outside surface has a diameter which is greater than the diameter of the tube, said outside surface being provided with transverse grooves; a block of epoxy resin molded both over a portion of a bundle of fibers and over the barrel; the resin covering portions of the bundle both inside and outside the barrel; a sleeve fixed in sealed manner to the other length of tube; a clamping ring; a viscous hydrophobic liquid injected into the space remaining empty between the sleeve and the block of epoxy resin; and epoxy resin injected into the cavities inside the sleeve.

    Abstract: The housing comprises a tubular vessel (1) which is rigid, heat-conducting, and closed in watertight manner at both ends, with electrical circuits being received in receptacles (2) which are rigid, heat-conducting, and pressed against the inside wall of the tubular vessel by annular split springs (8) disposed transversely between the receptacles which surround them and which press against them, and which by reaction are thrust toward the tubular vessel. Thin heat-conducting cushions (5) are inserted between the vessel and the receptacles. The receptacles are hinged on supports which bear against the spring, thereby enabling heat-generating circuits to be disposed in cavities (6) whose bottom lie close to the walls (3) via which the receptacles press against the tubular vessel. The invention is applicable, in particular, to repeater type equipment for undersea communications cables.

    Abstract: An electronic circuit housing primarily applicable to undersea transmission-line repeater equipment includes a pressure-resistant tubular steel shell provided with water-tight end walls and containing a cylindrical assembly of frames having the shape of cylindrical sectors. Each frame is attached at one end to a radial flange of the internal shell wall and at the other end to an expandable collar provided with sliding wedges and locked by expansion in the internal shell wall. The fastening system facilitates mounting and accurate centering of the frames within the tubular shell, thereby guaranteeing a constant thickness and therefore uniform thermal conductivity of the interface between frame and tubular shell.

    Abstract: The invention relates to undersea cable transmission links including submerged repeaters, and more particularly it relates to a housing for such a repeater. The repeater housing includes a very rigid, watertight metal box (12) coated with an external polyethylene sheath (124, 125, 126) preventing the box from coming into contact with sea water, and electrically isolating it from the sea environment. The coated box is placed in a tubular casing (10) which is very strong in traction. The repeater includes a metal sleeve (130) placed inside the tubular casing (10) over the outer sheath of the metal box (12) and provided with studs (11) passing through the tubular casing (10) via suitable openings. The sleeve reduces the thermal resistance of the housing by short circuiting the thermal resistance of the tubular casing to a considerable extent.

    Abstract: A mechanical fuse for a cable connection tail of a submarine repeater in a cable transmission link, said cable connection tail extending from a case for repeater equipment, having a "free" end for connection to the head of a line cable fixed to the repeater when the link is laid, and including a tube which encloses the transmission-providing elements. The mechanical fuse comprises a plug (40) threaded over and fixed to the end of the tube (30) at the free end of the cable connection tail, a ring (41) fitted over the plug (40) and free to escape from the plug (40) in a direction running away from the cable connection tail, and mechanically fixed to the cable head, and a set of pins (42) transversely connecting the ring (41) to the plug (40) and having a cumulative shear strength which is less than the breaking strength of the tube of the cable connection tail.
