    Abstract: A method of making heat absorbing glass which comprises melting the raw materials of ordinary silica-soda-lime glass and incorporating therein during melting a quantity of the tinting agents Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, CoO, Se, UO.sub.2 and Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 sufficient to produce in a piece 2-12 mm. thick a purity of excitation less than 14%, a total transmission of solar energy less than 50%, and a factor of luminance Y between 35 and 55%, and shaping articles therefrom.

    Abstract: This invention produces a batch of raw materials for glass making having a greatly increased speed of fusion and fining, by mixing a glass sand with quicklime and/or calcined dolomite and with caustic alkali with or without alkali metal salts. The batch may be made as a powder, a paste or may be formed into granules and dried. The batches can be stored without hardening.
