  • Patent number: 5225452
Abstract: A foam forming composition comprises (a) one or more polysiloxanes having not less than three alkylhydrogen siloxane units per molecule, (b) one or more polysiloxanes having not less than two silicon-bonded hydroxyl group per molecule, (c) at least one liquid organic titanium compound and (d) a catalyst. Reaction between the organic titanate (e.g. tetraisopropyltitanate) and the hydroxy functional polysiloxane rapidly increases viscosity of the mixture to restrict flow of the composition as it cures to form a foam within 240 seconds of mixing. A vinyl polysiloxane may be incorporated.

  • Patent number: 5091484
Abstract: This invention discloses elastomer-forming compositions which have a low viscosity in the uncured state while retaining good physical properties when cured. They comprise an .alpha.,.omega. hydroxyl, trialkoxy or alkylenetrialkoxy end-blocked polydiorganosiloxane, a MQ silicone resin having tetrafunctional units of the formula SiO.sub.2 and monovalent units of the formula R.sub.a R'.sub.3-a SiO.sub.1/2 wherein R' denotes a group of the general formula --R"Si(OR.sup.*).sub.3, with R" being an alkylene group and R.sup.* an alkyl group and wherein a has a value of 2 or 3, preferably 2 for up to 30% of all monovalent units and a titanium catalyst.

  • Patent number: 5079311
Abstract: This invention discloses MQ silicone resins having tetravalent units of the formula SiO.sub.2 and monovalent units of the formula R.sub.a R'.sub.3-a SiO.sub.1/2 wherein R' denotes a group of the general formula --R"Si(OR.sup.*).sub.3 with R" being an alkylene group and R.sup.* an alkyl group and wherein a has a value of 2 or 3, preferably 2 for up to 30% of all monovalent units. There is also described a method of making these resins and a composition comprising hydroxy end-blocked polydiorganosiloxanes, MQ resins of the invention and a catalyst. This gives elastomer-forming compositions which have low viscosity in the uncured state whilst retaining good physical properties when cured.

  • Patent number: 5077422
Abstract: Organosilicon compounds having at least one unit of the general formula ##STR1## in which R represents alkyl, R' is a divalent alkylene, oxyalkylene, alkenylene or oxyalkenylene, Z represents an alkyl, alkoxy or hydroxyl group, a has a value of 0, 1, 2, or 3 and c is 0 or 1, wherein at least one of Z and R' is linked to the multivalent aryl group via an ether linkage, are useful for absorbing UV radiation. Especially if polymeric (with e.g. diorganosiloxane units) they can be incorporated in sunscreen preparations to improve their substantivity to the skin. A process for preparing the compounds is also disclosed.
