  • Patent number: 7656135
Abstract: A wind turbine generator includes at least one rotating member, at least one stationary member, and a clearance gap control system. The stationary member is positioned such that a clearance gap is defined between a portion of the rotating member and a portion of the stationary member. The clearance gap is configured to facilitate transmitting a controllable magnetic flux therethrough. The control system includes at least one clearance gap measurement assembly, at least one power converter, and at least one controller. The controller is coupled in electronic data communication with the assembly and the converter and is configured to modulate a dimension of the gap by modulating the flux.

    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Christian Schram, Henning Luetze, Andreas Buecker, Andre Riesberg, Robert William Delmerico
  • Patent number: 7437216
Abstract: The method for controlling a first wind energy turbine of a wind park comprising multiple wind energy turbines connected to the grid, in situations where the first energy turbine operates substantially at zero energy output level, comprises the steps of determining whether at least one of the other wind energy turbines of the wind park is operated above a predetermined energy output level, and if at least one of the other wind energy turbines of the wind park is operated above the predetermined energy output level, maintaining connection of the first wind energy turbine to the grid.

  • Publication number: 20070255832
Abstract: A method for automatically configuring a local network in a windfarm is provided, the method including the steps of (a) automatically assigning an IP address to a device connected to the local windfarm network, (b) automatically receiving an identifier tag from the device, and (c) relating the automatically assigned IP address of the device to a specific wind turbine in the windfarm which is identified by said identifier tag.

  • Publication number: 20070183885
Abstract: A method for optimizing the operation of a wind turbine is provided, the method comprising the steps of: (a) adjusting at least one control parameter of said wind turbine to a predetermined starting value; (b) measuring at least one response variable of said wind turbine and at least one further variable indicative of an ambient condition of the wind turbine; (c) repeating step (b) N times, wherein N is a predetermined integer, wherein said at least one control parameter is varied at each repetition; (d) determining a measured relation between the at least one control parameter with respect to the at least one response variable and the at least one further variable indicative of an ambient condition; (e) determining an optimized value of said at least one control parameter with respect to said response variable from said measured relation; (f) adjusting a set point of said at least one control parameter to said optimized value.

  • Publication number: 20070108770
Abstract: A the rotor for a wind energy turbine includes a hub and at least one rotor blade connected to the hub. The rotor also includes comprises at least one sensor for sensing at least one physical value of the rotor, e.g. mechanical stress, and a power supply for supplying electrical power to the at least one sensor. The power supply includes an electromechanical converter for converting mechanical energy from vibrations of the rotor when subjected to wind loads, e.g. during operation of the wind energy turbine, into electrical energy for supplying to the at least one sensor.

  • Publication number: 20030116970
Abstract: Two independent adjusting systems are recommended for each rotor blade (6) for blade angle adjustment of the rotor blades (6) of the rotor of a wind power plant, assuring full redundancy of the blade angle adjustment. By suitable control of the individual adjustment paths of the two adjustment systems, additional advantageous effects can be gained, such as good lubricant distribution and/or even load distribution over time (FIG. 1).
