  • Publication number: 20110019629
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for selecting a transmission technology (MIMO or non MIMO) for a HSDPA connection established between a RNC and a UE depending on the mobility of said UE, measured at the RNC as variations of the position of the UE. Then, if the connection is established with HSDPA MIMO technology and the position variations exceed a first pre-defined threshold, the connection is switched to HSPDA non MIMO technology.

  • Publication number: 20100240376
Abstract: Cell barring in a cellular communication network is used in case of a failure in the core network of the cellular communication network or on the interface between the core network and the radio access network. By barring at least a part of the cells of the network, the UEs camping on these cells are triggered to reselect another cellular communication network in case of a service interruption.

  • Publication number: 20100234030
Abstract: A method of selecting a cell from a certain active set of cells (102, 103) to become serving cell for a mobile terminal (101) instead of the primary cell (102) of said active set of cells (102, 103) during a call in a mobile communications network implementing soft handover, the method comprising the steps of: determining whether the radio access bearer (RAB) of said call is being served on a soft handover area or not, and: if said call is being served on a soft handover area, determining whether the user of said mobile terminal (101) can be considered static or in motion, and: if said user of said mobile terminal (101) is considered static, comparing the load of said primary cell (102) to the load of at least one of the remaining cells (103) within the active set (102, 103), and: if the load of said primary cell (102) exceeds the load of said at least one of said remaining cells (103) within the active set (102, 103) by a predetermined factor, transferring the downlink user plane from said primary cell (102)

  • Publication number: 20100227624
Abstract: A method of managing baseband resources in a mobile communications network, wherein at least one interference cancellation technique in uplink is available, the method comprising the steps of: when baseband resources are demanded by a mobile user, determining whether there are free baseband resources or not, and: if there are not free baseband resources, determining whether there is at least one interference cancellation process cancelling the interference caused by at least one mobile user or not, and: if there is at least one interference cancellation process cancelling the interference caused by at least one mobile user, one mobile user is removed from said interference cancellation process.

  • Publication number: 20100227623
Abstract: In RAN sharing scenarios wherein radio spectrum allocated to multiple mobile network operators is split into at least one carrier, the steps for switching the configurations of carriers for RAN sharing are proposed here, defining: a pooled configuration by which all the operators share at least one carrier; and a dedicated configuration by which each operator has at least one carrier assigned for allocation of its traffic. The start point for switching is single carrier in the pooled configuration. Traffic load in the shared single carrier is constantly measured to compare it with a threshold, so that, when the measured load exceeds the threshold and if spectrum pre-emption is possible to create additional carriers, the switching from the single carrier in the pooled configuration to the plurality of carriers is performed, selecting the configuration for each carrier from three possible options: pooled, dedicated or a combination of both.

  • Publication number: 20100222065
Abstract: Base station apparatus (1) is provided for improving bandwidth usage in a cellular communication network serving at least one mobile terminal. The network is capable of supporting at least a first radio access technology (i.e. GSM) and a second radio access technology (LTE) and uses a predefined bandwidth range. The apparatus comprises a base band unit (3) including a counting means for determining the number of mobile terminals within a cell of the first radio access technology supporting the second radio access technology and a measuring means for determining the level of traffic carried by the first radio access technology cell; and a bandwidth assignment means for dynamically assigning a first portion of the bandwidth range to the first radio access technology and a second portion of the bandwidth range to the second radio access technology on the basis of the number of supportive mobile terminals and the level of first radio access technology traffic.

  • Publication number: 20100216451
Abstract: Method and controller device for controlling a plurality of N transport paths in RANs, wherein a primary path is assigned for each type of traffic to allocate voice or data calls, comprising: measuring load of the primary path periodically, when a call is incoming, comparing the measured load with a threshold, if the load of the primary path is less than or equal to the threshold, allocating the call to the primary path otherwise: calculating the available bandwidth of each transport path; comparing the available bandwidth of the primary path to the available bandwidths of the other transport paths and: if the available bandwidth of the primary path is greater than or equal to the available bandwidths of the others, allocating this call to the primary path; otherwise, allocating the call to a secondary path chosen from the remaining N?1 transport paths.

  • Publication number: 20100214988
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to methods for dynamically setting the number N of HS-SCCH channels to be used as signalling channels of the HS-DSCH traffic channel in a cell served by a Node B, which comprises, at predefined periods of time: determining the number N of HS-SCCH channels as a function of one or more of the following: percentage of used downlink transmission power, used_DL_TX_power, with respect to the maximum downlink transmission power in the cell, Cell_Max_DL_TX_power; number of users in the scheduler of the HS-DSCH channel for PS data traffic; number of codes being used for the HS-DSCH channel; number of users for voice over HSPA in the scheduler of the HS-DSCH channel; sending a message from a Radio Network Controller, RNC, that controls the Node B including the number N of HS-SCCH channels to be used in said cell. Embodiments related to a network entity comprising means for carrying out the above method are also disclosed.
