  • Patent number: 9204309
Abstract: A wireless spectrum is shared between a primary communication system and secondary communication system operating in an overlapping geographical region. A primary transmitter broadcasts a primary signal, and a secondary transmitter transmits a secondary signal, both using a primary wireless spectrum assigned to the primary communication system. The secondary transmitter transmits the secondary signal to a secondary receiver with power (1??)P and transmits the primary signal with power ?P. The parameter ? is computed to ensure a predetermined quality of reception of the primary signal by a hypothetical primary receiver located near the secondary transmitter. The secondary transmitter may compute a feasibility of using cognitive transmission and, when the computed feasibility exceeds or does not exceed a feasibility threshold, it selects to enable or disable, respectively, the use of the primary wireless spectrum to transmit from the secondary transmitter.

  • Publication number: 20150072876
Abstract: Gene expression analysis is generally performed on heterogeneous tissue samples consisting of multiple cell types. Current methods developed to separate heterogeneous gene expression rely on prior knowledge of the cell-type composition and/or signatures—these are not available in most public datasets. We present a novel method to identify the cell-type composition, signatures and proportions per sample without need for a priori information. The method was successfully tested on controlled and semi-controlled datasets and performed as accurately as current methods that do require additional information. As such, this method enables the analysis of cell-type specific gene expression using existing large pools of publically available microarray datasets.

  • Patent number: 8937884
Abstract: Interference cognitive devices are described. An interference cognitive device can be collocated with a transmitter of an interference cognitive transmitter (ICT), as receive chains or portions thereof at the ICT. An interference cognitive device can also be remote with respect to the transmitter, which operates in an interference cognitive network and receives data directly or indirectly from the interference cognitive device. The ICT uses the data to mitigate interference while continuing to operate in accordance with a performance metric.

  • Patent number: 8867490
Abstract: A method of offloading data from an IP-based cellular network to a Wi-Fi network is disclosed. A request from a user equipment (UE) to connect to a Wi-Fi network is received. It is determined whether the UE is a subscriber to a cellular network. It is determined whether to offload data from the cellular network to the Wi-Fi network. The determination is based at least in part on a set of offload criteria. A Home IP Address is obtained, wherein the Home IP Address comprises a mobile IP address corresponding to the UE assigned by the cellular network. The Home IP Address is allocated to the UE as the UE's IP address for communicating with the UE on the Wi-Fi network. Data is offloaded from the cellular network to the Wi-Fi network.
