Abstract: A device for fixing a first and a second tissue part or a tissue part and an implant part to each other is provided, providing a fastener including a thermoplastic material and a fastening instrument. The fastening instrument includes a first instrument component with a first contact surface facing toward a distal side and a second instrument component has a foot with a second contact surface distally of the first contact surface and facing toward a proximal side. The first instrument component and the second instrument component are displaceable with respect to each other, so that the fastener is compressible between the first and second contact surfaces by application of a relative force between the components. The instrument also includes an energy source for coupling mechanical energy into one of the instrument components to soften and/or melt an end portion of the fastener.

Abstract: It is disclosed a method for the detection of an amplification of nucleic acids in which substantially use is made of the fact that a pre-defined nucleic acid chain (target sequence) can be multiplied/amplified in the presence of a target sequence-specific activator oligonucleotide. The target sequence-specific activator oligonucleotide causes the separation of re-synthesized complementary primer extension products by means of strand displacement, so that a new primer oligonucleotide can attach to the respective template strand. The thus formed complex of a primer oligonucleotide and a template strand can initiate a new primer extension reaction. The thus formed primer extension products in turn function as templates, so that an exponential amplification reaction results. Amplification is detected by a detection system.

Abstract: A safety-critical controller of a vehicle monitors functioning of the controller, at least one sensor and/or at least one actuator to detect an error. When specific error conditions exist, a warning for the driver is generated. It is detected whether the error is remediated within a specified time span, and if not, then corresponding error data is transmitted to a vehicle manufacturer and/or a vehicle service provider. The time span may be extended if the driver confirms the warning by operating a corresponding operating device.

Abstract: In order to provide a pedal for a motor vehicle in which restoration of the pedal arm to its rest position is improved, it is proposed that a friction system has a rocker and the first return spring is disposed between the separate friction element and the rocker such that when the pedal arm moves in the direction of its maximum actuation position, the rocker is pressed against a friction surface of the separate friction elements in a friction force-generating manner, wherein the separate friction element is connected to the pedal arm in a compressive force-transmitting manner by means of the at least one first return spring, a bearing part for a second return spring, and a connecting element, and wherein the second return spring is disposed between the bearing part and the base part or the bearing part and the rocker.
