  • Patent number: 7382917
Abstract: A method for texture compressing images having a plurality of color components (R, G, B) includes defining color representatives for use in encoding by defining groups of colors for each color component (R,G,B), and selecting a representative median color for the group. Each group ideally includes 3 to 15 increasing colors. The method includes computing, for each group, an error between each member of the group and the representative median color of the group. Typically, the error is computed as the sum of the absolute differences (SAD) between each member of the group and the representative median color of the group.

  • Publication number: 20060110054
Abstract: A processing system, such as typically a CPU, is used for converting a digital signal organized in pixels, such as a video signal, between a first format and a second multiple-description format. The system comprises at least one input register and at least one output register, and is configured via instructions, that can be constituted at least in part by instructions of a SIMD type, so as to: order the pixels of the signal to be converted in a set of input registers; and take selectively the pixels from the aforesaid set of input registers and place them in an orderly way in at least one output register.

  • Publication number: 20060088107
Abstract: Digital signals, such as image/video signals are converted between a first format and a second format by using Multiple Description Coding, whereby the second format conveys multiple descriptions (D1 to D4; D1? to D4?) of the digital signals. In combination with MD coding, the signals are jointly subject to an error concealment process.

  • Publication number: 20060015792
Abstract: A system for encoding digital signals for transmission over a channel by allocating redundant channel encoding bits, includes at least one encoder configured for: subjecting the digital signals to multiple description coding to produce therefrom multiple description encoded signals, and allocating at least part of the redundant channel encoding bits to the multiple description encoded signals.

  • Publication number: 20050213658
Abstract: A method for encoding and decoding media signals, includes the operations of generating at a transmitting side multiple descriptions associated to data of the media signals through a downsampling operation performed on the data, and decoding at a receiving side the multiple descriptions for reconstructing the data by merging the multiple descriptions. The operation of generating multiple descriptions further includes the operations of obtaining a spectral representation of the data, including bands associated to different ranges, the bands being obtained by a suitable quantization operation and including at least one highly quantized band, that is subjected to a higher degree of quantization. A scrambling operation is performed on the spectral representation by moving the at least one highly quantized band to a different range, the scrambling operation being performed prior the downsampling operation. In decoding, a descrambling operation is performed before the merging operation on the multiple descriptions.

  • Publication number: 20050207497
Abstract: The method is directed to encoding/decoding a video signal sequence by generating therefrom multiple description subsequences wherein the subsequences are produced by a plurality of parallel video encoding processes based on respective encoding parameters. • Publication number: 20050207498
Abstract: The method for encoding and/or decoding video signals, includes the operations of generating at a transmitter side a multiple descriptions vector associated to a pixel values vector of the video signals and decoding at a receiver side available descriptions vector for reconstructing the pixel values vector. The operation of generating a multiple descriptions vector includes the steps of obtaining the pixel values vector by selecting a group of pixels in a picture of the video signal and applying an encoding matrix to the pixel values vector. The decoding operation includes the step of applying a decoding matrix that is in an inverse relationship with the encoding matrix to the available descriptions vector to obtain the pixel values vector.

  • Patent number: 6748028
Abstract: A digital AM demodulator, particularly for demodulating an input signal originating from a tuner, includes a first carrier generator for generating a first carrier signal which is not correlated with the input signal, and a multiplier for multiplying the first carrier signal by the input signal. Filters are arranged upstream and downstream of the multiplier for filtering undesired signals. The digital AM demodulator further includes a circuit for detecting a phase shift between a frequency of the input signal and a frequency of a local carrier signal. A correlation circuit correlates the first carrier signal with the input signal. The first carrier signal and the local carrier signal are mutually correlated, whereas the local carrier signal is not correlated with the input signal.
