    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the production of a viscosity regulator by introducing hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups into a starch molecule. The invention also relates to viscosity regulators produced in this manner and the use thereof. The viscosity regulators according to the invention can be used as emulsifiers or as thickening agents of surfactant-containing systems, e.g. in cosmetic or pharmaceutical preparations.
